August 14, 201313 yr From a poll here http://pantip.com/topic/30842545/result Most of them don't want to be born as Thai again. instead they want to be born in western countries like Canada ,Norway, New Zealand. On the other hand more and more Westerners come to live here in Thailand. What make you think Thailand is worth living in? I'm Thai anyway. Edited August 14, 201313 yr by lenmaipen
August 14, 201313 yr I think most Thais would like to be born in Western countries for the education, the wealth they could earn, and then they would emigrate to Thailand to be near their families. Quite often, when people answer polls, they don't think through their answers particularly thoroughly SC

August 14, 201313 yr Author It's not just a poll Here the thread if you can read Thai http://pantip.com/topic/30842545
August 14, 201313 yr The poll participants are all mistaken. What they actually want is to remain in Thailand, but receive western salaries.
August 14, 201313 yr IMHO...you are lucky if you can choose to try living in different countries.....if i was born in Thailand, i guess it would be the same.
August 14, 201313 yr Popular Post Westerners want to be westerners in Thailand, for the most part. Very few westerners even want to become Thai citizens, and for those that do, it is VERY difficult. Very small numbers. If you asked most western expats in Thailand would they want to be reborn as Thai or western, I reckon the vast majority would say western.
August 14, 201313 yr yes because a poll like this with 120 participants is so reflective of the average person in Thailand. If you are going to troll at least give something that is a relatively scientific argument. Most people that want more think that the grass is always greener. However the average person is content with the system that they are born in and typically try to make it work. I don't think that for a second that the average Thai person wishes he/she wasn't Thai. I think that is just a ridiculous assumption. Good luck with the troll though it will get some traction for certain.

August 14, 201313 yr So why do the people in that topic not want to be born in Thailand again? For us farang in Thailand, I would say that generally the main attraction is 1. Cost of living and what comes with it 2. Food The things we hate are 1. The Thai Police and Government being totally corrupt and incompetent 2. Traffic (But this is probably the result of #1)

August 14, 201313 yr Thailand gives a lot of opportunities to people to fulfill their sexual needs and that is very attractive for most foreigners. Getting a thai girlfriend is a lot easier here than it is in western countries and other sexual services are easy, plentiful and cheap to get. It is also the sheer amount of positive attention that you get as a foreigner. I am always super flattered how people here treat me as if I am somehow a very important person. I would never get that kind of treatment in a western country. But none of the foreigners would want to be born here if that means that they will not be getting western salaries.

As I understood, the OP was about what Thais wished for, not Farang. We all know why farangs come here - except for the exceptions, who post on TV. But (if there is any value in such speculation... Noonatall, Allan, noonatalll... then the question is why do Thais wish they were Farang?
August 14, 201313 yr The poll participants are all mistaken. What they actually want is to remain in Thailand, but receive western salaries. Maybe they want to be born in the West so that they are qualified to tell Thais what they want or should want, just like you.
August 14, 201313 yr They probably only know westerners on their one vacation for the year and then think that the west is a place of milk and honey, where everyone is rich and no one has to work hard like they do. I think most would change their mind if stuck in some suburb apartment with a low paying job and bad weather in northern europe.

Agreed! and considering the Pros and Cons, and advantages from both Countries it's not too difficult to figure out where you would most likely have a head start in life! And those that want to gain Thai Citizenship, would not want to,if it mean't shedding their wealth, and becoming exactly the same as the majority of poor Thais. My wife gained British Citizenship in January of this year, which going through the various visas, has taken 3.25 years, but her gains in my Country,is far and away more than she could ever dream of in Thailand,I doubt she would ever choose to be born in Thailand, over a western country, but of course she still loves her own country, but she is also certainly a realist! August 14, 201313 yr I love the fact that I was born and raised in a uk. We live in a democracy and generally enjoy a high standard of life. The education is good too. I think most who want to move to Thailand can be categorised into 3 groups. 1) those chasing ladies of the night 2) those who have failed at all attempts to hold down a relationship back in farang land and are now completely repulsive to any lady back home wherever that might be 3) A retiree who wants a laid back holiday scene for the rest of their life There are of course ex pats who work there but those types I'm sure were sent there by their companies ect... I'm obviously not talking about teachers either.

I think most would change their mind if stuck in some suburb apartment with a low paying job and bad weather in northern europe. This and the grass is always greener on the other side but by and large thailand is a developing country while western countries aren''t so in a way you could say that an average westerner would probably have a better chance to attain a higher standard of living.

They might frown on it but a thai female could choose that route and many do. Dating or marrying a foreigner is one way out of ticket out of poverty in thailand and other developing nations and it's not really fair to use that yardstick to judge on the easiness of getting a gf. What makes this worse is that many foreign men don't want to admit it and really think they have "game" when they got their thai gf. Now of course that doesn't mean all thai girls are like that but it's just so common in thailand that even the thais themselves just automatically assume a foreign man with a thai girlfriend or wife = ex bargirl and that's the impression some foreigners have of thai girls.
August 15, 201313 yr Popular Post The problem is the question because it is impossible to happen so no one can give an accurate answer. It is kind of like asking people if they could be born in a different time period would they choose something different? Since it is impossible people can be less practical. If the question was, would you choose to have your children give up their citizenship and live their entire lives abroad or here in Thailand, you might get a more accurate measure. There are advantages and disadvantages of all countries. To the morons that think there are only 3 type of westerners that come here, go back to the pub and have another drink and tip some girl to tell you that you are handsome. In fact it is easier to get a good looking girlfriend in most countries that you are from than here. It might be easier to get some woman with classpirations but not a real relationship. Those take work wherever you are from and usually consist of having good conversation, trust, and respect (which seems most guys on this forum have little for Thai women) There are many successful business people, those that want a different way of life, those that enjoy different cultures, those that have decent relationships, those that build a sense of community with locals. There are definitely more than 3 types of people. Those that you describe are usually the ones that get bitter, resentful, spit out and end up back home, or sit on this forum and spread the same silliness that they think because happened to them all others are the same.
August 15, 201313 yr If they was born in sweden they would have a 33% income tax, open a small shop and run it prosperous is close to impossibly if you want to be legal about it and the tax you have to pay then on your profit are insane. Rent, food etc etc. are so expensive that you get robbed every time you go to the supermarket and you must because there is no thai market. But as a reward for this you get total goverment control of every aspect in your life and off course a good sallary that you keep very little of. There are wealthy people in sweden for whom this does not matter but they rarely go to Thailand and doubt they would like to live here, to unconvient for them.

If you could correct that to "have little for any woman" then I would agree.
August 15, 201313 yr It's not just a poll Here the thread if you can read Thai http://pantip.com/topic/30842545 Perhaps you can just summarize the sentiments of the Thais in that poll for everyone to understand. Clearly, it's not cut-and-dry. For instance, what if the poll were to ask to choose between: 1. Be born dirt poor to a poor family in America, or 2. Be born rich to a rich Thai family in Thailand. What then? There's an awful lot of Americans born in the USA who are really not doing so well right now. Lots. It seems many Thais believe all Americans are filthy rich and by just being born there, your life is set. Not that way at all.
August 15, 201313 yr AOA, not sure about that when my dad got divorced at 58 for the third time, he dated a lot of 30 year olds but again dating and having a relationship are different. He would have never made a serious commitment with them. He is now married again to a very nice woman in her 50's. As I stated most of the older guys here dating young women, don't have girlfriends. They are not in a stable relationship they are in an exchange for sex and comfort. Yes of course there are those that break the mold because some woman care more about personality and a connection than money or looks and there are men that truly love their wives and not just because they have a hard firm body. And yes true about the lack of respect for all women. I still think that even some of those wouldn't pull the crap with a western woman that they do with Thais.

Including the Mia Nois when you are older. Not bad to be born Thai.
