LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- American actress Lisa Robin Kelly, who starred as the blonde bombshell Laurie Forman on the hit TV comedy "That '70s Show," died Wednesday at a substance abuse facility in California, her manager said Thursday. She was 43 years old.

Kelly died late Wednesday evening at the Pax House substance abuse facility in Altadena, about 9 miles (15 kilometers) north of Los Angeles. "Lisa had voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility early this week where she was battling the addiction problems that have plagued her these past few years," her manager Craig Wyckoff said.

"I spoke to her on Monday and she was hopeful and confident, looking forward to putting this part of her life behind her. Last night she lost the battle," Wyckoff wrote in an e-mailed statement. He said the cause of death was not yet known and no death certificate had been issued as of Thursday.

Kelly had struggled with alcohol abuse in recent years, causing her to leave "That 70s Show" at the height of its popularity in 2003. She was arrested and charged with domestic violence in April 2012, resulting in the release of a mugshot which showed her with smeared eye liner and bags under her eyes, a far cry from the sexy and promiscuous Laurie Forman.

"My poor mother has to look at that picture of me. That doesn't look like me, it's not me," Kelly told ABC News last year after the mugshot went viral, but she strongly denied being on drugs at the time the photo was taken. "Absolutely not. There is nothing that I was on or abusing at that time."

During the same interview, Kelly discussed her alcohol abuse problems but insisted they were behind her. "I had lost a baby. As a result of that, I lost everything, and I was abusing alcohol which I no longer do," she said. "With 'That '70s Show," I was guilty of the drinking problem. And I ran. And I'm not running from this. And I have paid my dues. And if I can make it through this, I can make it through anything."
