It really is nothing new. It has been reported before that it is a requirement for a conversion to a non immigrant visa entry.

No-one on this thread had mentioned it, so I assumed it was new. But as I said, this is the only time I've done such a conversion, and I wasn't expecting it.

If using money in the bank for conversion in Bangkok they will want document from bank confirming funds were transfered into the country from abroad along with letter confiirming balance.

Only balance letter will be needed when you do the extension.
