Can Uk Born Thai register birth at Thai embassy with differant name to UK bIrth certificate?

Featured Replies

Baby born recently in UK to UK citizen Father and Thai national mother.

Already secured UK birth certificate and UK Passport.

Planning to go to Thai embassy in London soon to apply for Thai birth certificate and Thai e passport.

I worry that having Thai birth certificate for child with All English names may be a disadvantage in the future if the child want to stay in Thailand.

Not sure a Thai birth certificate in the name of Robert Tony dawson would help him in life in Thailand?

Maybe if its possible to have Thai birth certificate in Thai names, and potentially use wife's surname as well instead of Dawson, may help him a lot .

Just do not want anything that may cause him to be at a disadvantage should he want to live in Thailand.

(I can also appreciate that makes it much harder to travel abroad to UK seamlessly on dual passports if the names are completely differant, and may always mean careful planning and having to also carry copies of birth certificates as well)

His name is his name, why don't you just give him a Thai nickname. Most Thai people are only called by their nick-name.

Asia Thai passport holder with a very Irish sounding name, I'd say the opposite is true. It is your ability to speak the language and fit in which makes the difference. Not a name.

When our children were born in the UK we gave both of them Thai middle names so now they have the option when in Thailand to use either there western name or there Thai name.

We also asked the Mother in Law & her partner to choose there middle names so that they could feel involved even so far away.

Bird Tonchai - Born Albert Thongchai McIntyre one of the most famous stars in Thailand nickname Bird - He done okay - It will be fine

Secondly there is very little chance your son will need or want to live in Thailand - maybe travel there maybe not.

Do not worry.

We gave our daughter the Name Iysha - pronounced I-sha - The Thais call her Iyyyshaaa As in drag out the name and it sounds Thai - in fact it is a Muslim name but who cares it only a name. I rarely get called by my name often worse !!!
