Evacuated Thais land in Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- The first batch of Thais evacuated from Egypt arrived safely back in Bangkok on Monday afternoon.

The 631 Thais were evacuated from Cairo after the political crisis there worsened and the death toll reached 630.

They were taken by chartered flight from Cairo to Dubai where a special flight organised by Thai government brought them to Bangkok.

PHUKET: -- Police last night arrested a Canadian man wanted for allegedly stealing 100,000 baht in Chiang Rai after photos he posted on his Facebook page were recognized as having been taken in Patong.

German expat mugged by Phuket teen gang

Peter Hellmuth ended up with bruises and abrasions, including one on his shoulder and another over his right eye.

PHUKET: -- A 56-year-old German man, Peter Hellmuth, was kicked off his motorbike in the early hours of this morning (August 19) and mugged by a gang of seven Thai teenagers as he was driving to his Nai Harn home.

Senior Democrats allowed to join People's Army protests

BANGKOK: -- Key Democrat Party figures have been agreed by the party leader to join the street rallies against the government as well as the so-called "Thaksin regime".

In an interview with the Blue Sky TV Channel Monday, opposition Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said the People's Army rally against "Thaksin's regime" is being held lawfully as they wanted to make social changes.

"So, it's good if we can support them," he said, referring to some Democrat leaders who took to the People's Army stage in Lumpini Park on Sunday.
