BANGKOK: -- The Cabinet will determine next Thursday the recovery plan for the Rayong's Koh Samet whose marine eco-system had been damaged by oil spill last month.

The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry will propose the plan and ask approval from the cabinet approval.

The ministry would likely to seek the financial assistance from PTTGC who caused the oil spill and the Environmental Fund to support the recovery plan.

The plan, focus on seven groups of natural resources including marine ecosystem, corals, beach, seagrass, mangrove, marine endangered species, and pollution.

According to the Marine and Coastal Department, about 6 rai of coral reef in Ao Phrao and Ao Pla Tom had been affected by the oil spill. The department is now trying to recover the damaged corals.

Why is PTTGC not paying for the whole clean up, why does the Government

want to spend tax payers money on it, could it be that some of them have shares

in said company.

regards Worgeordie

The government are seeking financial assistance from PTT. SEEKING ????

I understood that PTT had admitted all and said it would make good and compensate for losses, why isn't money already released into a FUND for the whole clean up operation and on going from day 1.

The cabinet is to have a meeting on Thursday ??? Did this mishap happen 1 day before most cabinet left for an abroad trip?? and now is about to discuss about the ins and outs of a cure, and who in the cabinet is qualified to speak and advise ???

Indeed what would the cabinet know about marine ecosystems, oil spills or anything remotely connected with a recovery plan?

If any of them even bother to read the plan will they be able to comprehend what it means?

Only reason to take it to them would be to approve funding but there should be no need for that as PTT has admitted responsibility and said they will fund all the clean up, so if funding is approved where will it go?

The cabinet is probably just as qulaified to determine a recovery plan as they have shown themselves to be at leading/running the country. The PM has already issued orders to 'clean it up', PTT has assured us they will pay for clean up, restution to those affected, etc How many committees will be formed, at what cost, once these vultures get involved is anyones guess.

This entire coalation government has shown that they can destroy just about any resource in Thailand, just by subjecting it to their thought process (input) to control/influence it. The last place these dubbas need to be called on to help, is the natural environment.

so if funding is approved where will it go?

to buy some more clocks, this season's Burberry collection, Bentleys for all....?.....its seems to me just another way of getting their snouts in the trough

What does that mean? Likely? Someone should fine these buggars a lot of money.

I think some of you guys mistake PTTGC's promise to pay for damages as a "free for all" cash buffet biggrin.png

PTT is a State Owned publicly traded Fortune 500 Company whose parent company is Thailand's Ministry of Finance.

PTTGC should have been prominently involved in this cleanup. The newspaper should have been discovering PTTGC chemical engineers and other specialists and ops people all over the place. PTTGC is conspicuous by their absence. This is a totally abnormal behavior by a major oil company regarding a spill in their own offshore operations.

PM Yingluck will be in attendance buy will not speak

Seem skype connection to Dubai is down

So ????

Giving them marks out of ten, if an independent survey was conducted in The Eastern seaboard area, not many high marks on effort from day one would be given.

......they were just looking for an excuse to get their hands on more money......

What's the worry about, the SURFACE is clean, so the problem is solved, lets promote tourism ONLY TOURISM already cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

I was under the impression that they had already done what man can do and from here in nature will be in charge.

If they can figure out how to repair the damage to "about 6 rai of coral reef" They can use it in a lot more places in Thailand where man has added to the destruction of the coral reefs.

Of course there will be finical losses to commercial industries they can repay.
