webfact Posted August 19, 2013 Share Posted August 19, 2013 OIL SPILL ACCIDENTCabinet to consider recovery plan for Koh Samet next ThursdayPongphon SarnsamakAtchara VisetsriThe NationBANGKOK: -- The Cabinet will determine next Thursday the recovery plan for the Rayong's Koh Samet whose marine eco-system had been damaged by oil spill last month.The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry will propose the plan and ask approval from the cabinet approval.The ministry would likely to seek the financial assistance from PTTGC who caused the oil spill and the Environmental Fund to support the recovery plan.The plan, focus on seven groups of natural resources including marine ecosystem, corals, beach, seagrass, mangrove, marine endangered species, and pollution.According to the Marine and Coastal Department, about 6 rai of coral reef in Ao Phrao and Ao Pla Tom had been affected by the oil spill. I understood that PTT had admitted all and said it would make good and compensate for losses, why isn't money already released into a FUND for the whole clean up operation and on going from day 1. The cabinet is to have a meeting on Thursday ??? If any of them even bother to read the plan will they be able to comprehend what it means? Only reason to take it to them would be to approve funding but there should be no need for that as PTT has admitted responsibility and said they will fund all the clean up, so if funding is approved where will it go? slapout Posted August 19, 2013 Share Posted August 19, 2013 The cabinet is probably just as qulaified to determine a recovery plan as they have shown themselves to be at leading/running the country. The PM has already issued orders to 'clean it up', PTT has assured us they will pay for clean up, restution to those affected, etc How many committees will be formed, at what cost, once these vultures get involved is anyones guess. This entire coalation government has shown that they can destroy just about any resource in Thailand, just by subjecting it to their thought process (input) to control/influence it. The newspaper should have been discovering PTTGC chemical engineers and other specialists and ops people all over the place. PTTGC is conspicuous by their absence. If they can figure out how to repair the damage to "about 6 rai of coral reef" They can use it in a lot more places in Thailand where man has added to the destruction of the coral reefs. IMPO we have to improve you constantly, but for the Chinese is on only profit matters.As a former [25 years ago] as a Master of Merchant Marine, Made in China, & so very conflicticting reports.My isaan somtam experience, the Thais closed or almost closed a valve to the storage & Oman ship pumps trip due to high pressure in the floating hoses.
