Extending a land entry visa

Featured Replies

Hi. I have looked around a bit and not been able to find any posts that are asking what I am, but if there already is one, I apologise.

Basically my 15 day land entry visa expires on the 28th and my flight leaves on the 1st.

If I make it to Bangkok on the 28th will the immigration office be unhappy at me for wanting to extend my visa on the day it expires?

I'm wary about just waiting the 3 days and paying at the airport (it's just my luck for something bad to happen)

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can get an extra 7 days from immigration for 1,900 baht. They might require you show a ticket out.

Simply leaving and returning to Thailand again by land will give you another 15 days.

Hi, thanks very much.

So they will be happy to extend it even though its the day it expires? That's all I'm worried about really.

No problem.

You don't have to do it in Bangkok it can be done at any immigration office.

Per above, you can even apply a few days early.

Thank you all so much. You've put my mind at ease.

Worst case scenario that I don't make it to the immigration office. If I went the day after it expired would I be treated like a criminal or be allowed to pay the overstay fees up until the 1st? (I've heard horror stories and people saying you can pay at the immigration office so don't know what to trust)

They will take your 500 and do the extension but much better to do it early.

There are immigration offices all over the country surly you can make it to one by the 28.

Go to http://www.immigration.go.th/ and select checkpoints to find an office.

You won't have a visa to extend.

You'll want to extend your permission to stay.

Is that still fine though terry??

You won't have a visa to extend.

You'll want to extend your permission to stay.

As Terry said, you don't have a visa to extend. You entered not with a "15 day land entry visa" but visa exempt.

Terminology can get one caught up in convolutions of problems.

You have permission to stay for 15 days, which you can extend.

Ok. Fingers crossed that wont be an issue?

Not a problem.

But did you read my posts about getting extension somewhere besides Bangkok?

Technically you can not extend such an entry but any immigration office will provide 7 days to depart when they disapprove an application for extension so in effect you do actually get an additional 7 days.

Yep I did read your post ubonjoe. I will try and get to an office before Bangkok but at the moment I'm on koh Tao and boats are a nightmare to get a space on due to full moon. I'm travelling direct from here to Bangkok in one go so I think that it's the best option.

Thanks lopburi, so regardless of their decision to extend my stay, I should be fine as long as I let them know I'm not leaving on the day my visa expires, the 28th (ill try and get there before though)

Once again thanks so much for all your help. Some people are telling me to just wait and pay at the airport but I don't think I can deal with that stress

Surathani (and Samui) have an immigration office.
