I've just seen a cheap Aeroflot ticket BKK-LON return. I wouldn't mind spending a few days in Moscow. Is it possible to arrange a longer stopover while keeping the same low fare?

Often depends on the ticket conditions if they will allow it. Best to ask the airline directly or your travel agent.

I've found layovers add a bit to the ticket price. As mentioned above, either call the airlines or have an agent help you out.

Budget airlines are flying London to Moscow these days so I think it would be cheaper to do it that way on the return leg.

You can ask airline first, but... Do you have a Russian visa? Moscow is not a Hong Kong, where a lot of nationals can go outside airport to enjoy shopping.

Check out the Visa situation first as its not as straight forward as other countries to get one, you need a letter of invitation and things like that to apply. I once looked at the same option and didn't bother in the end, it was too much hassle and costs soon add up! Depends how much you want to visit Moscow I suppose!!

Been there/done that just a few months ago.

Getting a Russian tourist visa is a tad more complicated then a Thai visa, you need insurance, and two pieces of paper from a licensed Russian tour agency (tourist voucher and receipt).

Funnily enough, if you want a double entry visa you need to provide an HIV-free certificate!

Additionally, the Russian embassy in Bangkok only issues visa's to Thai nationals and to foreigners having either Thai residency, or a 1 year extension from immigration.
