Passport checks

Featured Replies

Just a heads up for all you overstayer. Right now around Sukumvit 1-12 from what I saw single policemen are randomly stationed along the sidewalk stopping random people checking passports. With the recent reports of corrupt cops one wonders if it is safe to cooperate with then if they approach you?

So your an overstayer?

Yes, it's going on 5 years now! Any problem? Lol

It is not safe to NOT cooperate with them

This is annoying, i normally never take my passport anywhere now because of jokers like that I need to take it with me. Normally my ThaiDL would be enough.

The police I have seen in the area are usually pretty thick and tagging litterers. I suspect they check passports if they grab someone, but that hasn't been their main emphasis.

Of course, things change.

Maybe the anti-litter campaign worked too well and they need a new revenue stream?

The people who fine you for throwing cigarette butts in the street are not policemen. They're thetsakij, aka municipal employees.

I suspect the guy the OP saw trolling for passports is probably not a policeman either. The distinction seems pretty irrelevant if they can pull you over and fine you with the authority of law, and summon the guys with guns with a whistle or radio.

Kind of like Meter Maids Attendants back home. They aren't the police, but they can bring all kinds of crap down on you if you try their patience.

(Sorry, PC edit.)

Look at their sides.

The real police have big shiny guns, the others don't.

Sure you aren't getting confused with the litter pretend police?
