Good Primary Schools

Featured Replies

I'm interested in any good Primary schools in CM as we are considering our options for our 6 yr old son. CM has been recommended to us over Lamphun and we are interested in something around the THB 100k budget mark.

We would prefer a school not on the super-highway or out of town to for practical purposes. Prince Royal College appeals to us because of the area it is in and I'd be interested in similar schools as well as feedback from people's experiences. Our son is fluent in English but doesn't know hardly any Thai. We want him to learn both and would welcome other members recommendations on what approach to take.

I understand there are bilingual and EP programmes but we are unsure which is best suited for him at present and which option is best in the long run.

Many thanks

I've read a few threads old threads on here about Varee, Dara, Waldorf, Bann Khun Mae, Pimandek and Wachirawit. Just wondered if anyone can give any pros and cons on these with regards to more recent experience and also a cost approximation as well as rough location (since we'd want to live quite near to the school).

I've also heard that some schools provide their own transport around CM to collect students so anything on that would be helpful since we might not need to live quite as close to the school. Varee I know is located on the Super Highway but I would prefer to live in CM near the old city than out near Varee.

Many thanks

Actually Varee is not on the superhighway, It's on Mahidol Road, and not very far from the city centre, and lots of accommodation and shopping choices nearby.

My Thai granddaughter is in the EP program at Varee (3 years already), overall very happy with the school and my granddaughters progress. At primary level EP program is about 93,000Baht a year (includes lunch), add books and uniforms around 100,000Baht a year.

Their website is easy to find and easy to navigate.

Call and make an appointment to meet Ajahn Dani (Thai professional teacher, many years teaching experience in UK, speaks perfect English, very pleasant lady, good listener, and very focused on detailed discussion about education).

It may be a couple of days before you can meet her because she has her own classes, but worth any small wait.

There are mini vans school buses taking kids in and out of Varee but from my understanding this is not owned or coordinated by Varee Chiang Mai school.

Each to their own, but my family would never ever ever use school buses / vans for any school, anywhere in Thailand. This is not meant in any way as a comment on Varee.

Be careful of the school buses (mini-vans). I too, believe them to be independent of the schools. I don't think much screening is done of the drivers. Over the last year or 18 months there have been numerous stories on the news of children left on buses in Thailand by careless drivers, locked in, couldn't get out, etc. They all died. We would NEVER use them either.

Also, some schools seem to push Buddhism on the students. We didn't want that so we looked for a school with minimal Buddhist influence. Don't know if that is a concern for you but you may wish to check it out. (We wouldn't want a heavy Christian influence either.)

Also got Sacred Heart, Montford College, Regina (all next to each other in town) - Ambassador on middle ring road.

My dealings with the owner of LIST were very pleasant. I don't know the nitty gritty, but she used to live in the US, but is a Thai citizen.
