Pheu Thai set to explain higher costs
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai Party's MPs will convene on Tuesday, for a briefing on the increases of cooking gas price, expressway toll fee, and fuel tariff which took effect on September 1.

The party’s spokesman Prompong Nopparit said on Sunday that this will help the MPs explain the true reasons of the increases to the public.

The general public is grumbling on the increases, for fear of a higher cost of living.

The Energy Ministry raised the cooking gas price for household and transport use by 50 satang, to Bt18.63 per kg, to lessen subsidies as global gas prices are escalating.

Meanwhile, Bangkok Expressway, the operator of the first-stage expressway, has won the approval to raise the toll rate from Bt45 to Bt55. Under the concession, BECL is allowed to raise the toll rate every five years. The latest increase took effect in 2008.

Fuel tariffs for the September-December round are raised by 7.08 satang to 54 satang per unit, as fuel prices rose on the back of baht depreciation as well as intensifying violence in the Middle East. The Energy Regulatory Commission, which oversees the FT, reasoned that diesel costs Bt28.08 per litre compared to Bt26.51 in the previous 4-month period. Coal also rose from Bt2,217.36 per tonne to Bt2,376.26. ERC chairman Direk Lavansiri said based on the fuel prices, the tariff should have been raised by as much as 14 satang.

'Pheu Thai set to explain higher costs'

It's know as facing up to reality. All the subsidy money has been spent on rice.

It is not the fault of PTT or any of its subsidiary companies that burn LPG to manufacture all the petroleum products. It would be interesting to see an ACCURATE accounting for the amount of LPG used by PTT, EGAT and PEA in their processes, and compare it with international standards. How much is wasted? coffee1.gif

So the price of cooking gas has gone up .50 satang a Kg, now seen the price of

food sellers plates of food go up by 5Bht, I would have thought you could cook quite

a bit of food with a Kg of LPG,?

Well that is the Government story and they are sticking to it. The rises in costs of rice, veg, chicken, pork and fish which the Government called 'imaginary', or 'just seasonal' rather than 'yes, it's a direct result of the 50% increase in the minimum wage', have clearly taken their toll in many parts of the country. If you made everyone in the country a dollar millionaire then a loaf of bread would cost 1000 baht. Simple. Raise the minimum wage by 50% and it will have an effect. The reason the Government are in trouble over this one is that they said they would not put the price of Gas up (still PTT have a big clean up op to pay for soon eh!)

It is called inflation and the cot of living - prices going up

but no worries .. minimum wage at 300 now ... mai ppmpem

Why do people in Thailand expect the price f everything to stay the same?

and why should Gov't have to subsidize everything pr control all the prices?

Maybe the PM can sell a few of her HERMES bags and help the poor, lol
