Filipplenoir Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Does anybody know where is located the building formally known as the Paruskavan Palace (Bangkok)? Thanks
Filipplenoir Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 It is also known as Government House. are you talking about the place where the current PM works? According to Wikipedia "The Government House (Thai: ทำเนียบรัฐบาล) in Bangkok houses the offices of the Prime Minister of Thailand and the appointed cabinet ministers. It also contains conference rooms and is used for state functions and receptions of foreign guests. It consists of several palace-like structures extending over 11 acres (45,000 m2). King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) commissioned the Italian architect Annibale Rigotti to design the main building in 1923, although construction would remain incomplete as Rigotti returned to Italy after the king's death in 1925" But my book says that Paruskavan was finished in 1905...
harrry Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 http://www.thaigov.go.th/en/government-house-en.html hmmm looks as if I neede to do a bit more reading about this. It seems tied up with the Japanese rule.
Filipplenoir Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 yes, It is still in BKK but noone seems to use its former name, strange. well it houses some Thai government security offices or smth. it is not far from Ampornsathan Palace. do you know where that one is?
Filipplenoir Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 I've created a Wikipedia article on the subject https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paruskavan_Palace
lomatopo Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Am pretty sure it is in Dusit. Doesn't look accessible. Maybe you can view it from Thanon Nakhon Ratchasima? Paruskawan Mansion http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Paruskawan_mansion.jpg
Filipplenoir Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 Thanks. I found it ! WikiMiniAtlas 13.767986°N 100.510676°E
lomatopo Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I think you can walk down and look in from within Dusit, at least that's what I remember. It doesn't look like that 'mansion' is open to the public as are many others within Dusit. You can mess around with Gmaps/Streetview and GEarth.
