September 6, 201312 yr Yes they have just raised the tax on booze. 5 baht per can of beer, I think, which is quite steep. Only thing to do about it is to stop drinking which I am not yet prepared to do, or smile and pay.
September 6, 201312 yr 5 baht not much to westerners but i imagine it will hit the thais that drink beer hard.
September 6, 201312 yr Popular Post 5 baht not much to westerners but i imagine it will hit the thais that drink beer hard. Correction..........5 Baht is not much to those with plenty of funds, Western or Thai makes no difference.
September 6, 201312 yr Popular Post Not just beer, it seems the price of Chang and Singha has also gone up.
September 6, 201312 yr Author How is it 'stealth' tax? stealth tax Definition A form of tax imposed indirectly on goods and is often overlooked by taxpayers. Unlike income taxes which are imposed directly on the income of the taxpayer, the stealth tax is smaller in rate and is collectible at point of sale. Examples include the value added tax and the sales tax.
September 6, 201312 yr How is it 'stealth' tax? Weeell, seeing that any tax collection here is a laugh in LOS, the only thing everyone buys is booze, hey prestooooo, TAX from everyone.

Not really, many of us here in Thailand manage to enjoy life without benefit of alcoholic beverage consumption. So I say, like fags and lottery tickets...tax away.

September 6, 201312 yr Beer bottles in supermarkets almost same price as in Europe now. I don't know where you come from, but in my home country, beer is way cheaper than here.. For example: A box of (cheap) beer starts at ~5€ . That's 20 [email protected] liter (10 liter for ~200 Baht) That's half the price from here...or less.

September 6, 201312 yr the price of beer in the shop varies greatly from country to country in Europe. In the UK and Ireland I found it outrageous. The cheapest I think is Germany, where beer is taxed like food. Quality, name - brand beer can be less than 20 Baht a 0.5l bottle/can, and you get cut - price brands for the aforementioned 5 EUR per 20 btls.
September 6, 201312 yr We are talking beer here, not knats peeeeeeee. ........................ Seems that you've absolutely no idea of German beer...even this 5€/box beer is imported to Thailand. __________________________ Edited September 6, 201312 yr by Turkleton

September 7, 201312 yr The Thai govt guy in the news article here the other day announcing the increase in alcohol taxes -- all alcohol -- said it was supposed to be 2 or 3 baht extra for a regular bottle of beer at retail... Sounds like it's ending up a bit more than that.
