Best Pro Level Camera Dealer

Featured Replies

Not having much luck in the photography forum so here goes:

As I might be about to have a spend up...

http://www.digilifet...S_1DX_BODY.aspx

Seems a lot cheaper than elsewhere eg:

http://www.fotofile....ct.php?id=17124

http://shop.worldcamera.co.th/product_detail.php?pid=2116&v=1

Never been to Fortune Town as always shopped at Fotofile etc in MBK.

Any other suggestions?

I'd stop by Fortunetown and check World Camera's cash price. It is usually cheaper than what they post.

Depends what kind of gear you want. If it is run of mill Canikon stuff, just march around MBK until you find the cheapest price. If you want more out of the ordinary stuff like Voigtlander lenses, new and 2nd hand Leica etc, go to AV Camera next to Robinsons in Charoen Krung Road. There often have cash prices much cheaper than retail price on their website. There are also a lot of Ebay resellers in HK selling genuine stuff that they buy in bulk at lower prices than available in Thailand, as well as good quality 2nd hand stuff. Some may even offer to lower the declared value to save your Thai import taxes (5% duty + 7% VAT) but of course insurance is only for the declared value. Small packages valued at under around US$50 often come straight through to your home with the postman. I have bought quite a lot of photographic stuff from Ebayers in HK and never had a problem, although some packages took 3 or 4 weeks to arrive by sea mail. They are great for small stuff like filters and lens adapters that are hard to find in Thailand.

I'm looking at buying a couple of 1DX's.

Photo AV in MBK and Pantip is usually cheaper than Fotofile for Canon Nikon gear but no prices on website I don't think. AV Camera shows B192k for 1Dx on its website but in Thai it says ask at the shop for special cash price. Might be worth giving both a call.

AV Center, and many other "low price leaders", sell grey market Canon. As far as any warranty goes, all you have is their word. Canon Thailand doesn't cover them.

Not too bothered about warranty.

In 15 years of digi cameras never had one go wrong apart from "wear and tear".

Big ticket stuff - may be cheaper to take a weekend break to Hong Kong. When running 'used' (for 2 days!) cameras thru borders make sure you have mailed the invoices, packaging (break it down carefully - original boxes should be ressurected and stored) and instruction books back to base.

I used to buy good Canon gear in B&H New York when on business and take back to UK. 15% cheaper

Then, I definitely take a wander around Fortunetown.
