September 7, 201312 yr http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/jobs/10292056/US-porn-industry-shutdown-blamed-for-skewing-disappointing-jobs-data.html The August figures have various factors showing the unemployment figures have moved only from 7.4% to 7.3% in the month of August 2013. Firstly, the figure has dropped because over 300,000 people have been taken off the job-seeking register - because they are either refistered as 'retired' or as 'in full-time education'. Without this adjustment the figure for unemployed would have risen by several full percentage points. However, America’s official unemployment rate still fell as 312,000 people are no longer counted as part of the country’s potential workforce, for example because they passed retirement age, or entered full time education. Further, the movie industry lost 6% of it's total workforce. According to Labour Department figures released on Friday, the number of people with jobs fell by 112,000 in August. The data do not go into detail about why specific industries suffered, but it is thought that a temporary hiatus in the pornography industry had a significant impact on the figures. The adult film business was brought to a standstill for 12 days in August, after one of its actors was found to have HIV. The jobs data do not drill down into such specific industries, but the wider movie business lost 22,000 paid jobs – around 6pc of its total workforce. So - is one of the reasons Obama wants to have everyone chattering about Syria and Sarin the fact that he is losing jobs among his greatest support groups - media and working class voters?
