PATTAYA: -- The Father of a senior Police Officer from Chantabouri Province became the victim of a 300,000 Baht Gold Necklace snatch on Sunday afternoon in front of Soi 8 on Jomtien Beach.

The victim, Khun Bachan aged 64, had come to Pattaya for a short stay with his family and was staying at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort. On Sunday he went to Jomtien Beach and during the afternoon went to use a toilet on the opposite side of the road. As he returned back to the beach, two men on a motorbike drove past Khun Bachan, and the passenger on the bike snatched his 10 Baht-weighted gold necklace featuring three Buddhist amulets attached to the chain.

The victims son and his position as security adviser to the Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment afforded the victim special attention from the Police after a call from the Chonburi Provincial Commander to Police on Jomtien Beach to locate and arrest those responsible without delay was made.

so all police now busy catching those thieves while murderers and rapists still walk around

if a tourist gets robbed and molested maybe they are gonna look in to it but usually they catch those by accident or after tipoffs

a darwin nominee walking around with a big gold chain gets all the attention cos its the father of a police man

Yeah...that's the way it is in most countries...does this surprise you...had you been living in a monastery all your life till now?

Obviously had the wrong combination of amulets as the perps weren't struck down dead upon touching them!

Yep the old bill are stopping all investigations and are looking into this terrible crime

one of their own getting robbed instead of just another lowly tourist crime might bring it home to those in Bangkok as to whats really happening in these parts

Seems to me he was just asking to get mugged, there are a lot of poor people about in Thailand and flaunting a 10 baht weight gold necklace is a bit silly to say the least.

100,000 baht amulets eh?

A "bit silly" ....... you're being way to kind.

Sent from somewhere using something

Well, hopefully will still have enough rice for the rest of the week...

10 bath gold ????????? that must be heavy .......and quite hard to snatch no ? well next time its better to avoid to show to much good wealth ..specially in Pattaya .

Amulets!, what hope for Thailand?

Our next door neighbour here in Cha Am was always parading around with 8 gold rings and numerous necklaces till she got robbed. Now she cries its not fair she has no gold ( or brains ) cheesy.gif

No doubt she and the cops father will get more gold soon and once more prance about showing everyone how rich they are. blink.png

These Thai gold necklaces are designed for snatching, one yank and the "clasp" opens...

Not to worry Dad, your son will get you a new gold necklace, this time with anti-snatching amulet power, paid for by his discretionary funds...

The two punks will be in for some car battery to the testicles fun if they get caught.

Many gold snatchers work for the police: what goes round, comes round.

Easy come easy go comes to mind.

BW.

I'm guessing none of the mystical magical amulets were the "protection from theft" type.

Looks like Chantaburi is in for some increased policing.

So rude to flaunt this type of wealth in front of so many poor people.

Why would anyone take such an expensive piece of jewelry to the beach.., just

to show off???? My 99 baht watch goes with me to the beach. !!!

Who cares. A few handsome jet ski bribes will raise that amount.

Hogwash! A person should have the right to walk safely in public without being accosted, no matter what their wealth. Attitudes by poor people stating that they do not have this right is a reflection upon the person making this statement, not the person doing nothing wrong, and just continues the current problems. What a stupid statement.

Guess he forgot to wear the "Don't steal this necklace" amulet.

My wife was forbidden from wearing gold in Pattaya/Jomtiem when we lived there.

Simply stupid to do so.

If you are stupid enough to walk around with a 10 bath gold necklace in Jomtien you deserve to get mugged.

Don't misunderstand, he will probably get it back since BIB might already know the thieves, this was a planned robbery and not just a drive by theft.whistling.gif

The 3 Buddhist amulet attached was protecting him but not the necklace clap2.gif

Just Bad Karma. The 300,000 Baht Gold Necklace had probably been paid, with money collected from motorcyclists without helmets and car drivers and passengers without a fastened seatbelt.

Someone should check, how this family has become so wealthy, that they can afford 300,000 Baht Gold Necklaces and suites at The Royal Cliff! Does anyone know, how much the official salary of a senior police officer is in Thailand?

He's stupid enough to believe that amulets work ... I guess it explains his further stupidity of walking around with 300,000 Baht wrapped around his neck.

No pity from me.

You're absolutely correct. Maybe strap on your own 10 Baht gold necklace and go for a stroll through Jomtien. That'll show everyone.
