Work Permit Docs.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am about to start the process of applying for a WP here in Bangkok. I have had two WPs in the past here but it seems like the requirments have changed a little.

I completed secondary school in the UK about 30 years ago and took CSE/O'level exams, I dont have copies of the results. I am being asked for the following for the WP:

  • Education degree (signed copy) *

  • Transcript (signed copy) *

Will i be able to make do with a letter from the college saying I attended? I have yet to call the college in the UK but I heard from a friend they don't keep records going back that far.

Any advice/pointers will be much appreciated.

Cheers

A degree is not normally required unless the job you are doing requires it. A detailed CV listing your experience and etc is often enough.

The requirements changed a bit in 2011 with more emphasis placed on qualifications and a new requirement for the employer to explain a Thai could be hired for the job. A degree is not required except for certain professions such as teaching and that is because you need a teachers licence which requires a degree. As far as I know, you can submit a reference letter from a previous employer certifying that you have the experience and qualifications to do the job, if you can't produce relevant educational or professional credentials. Better check this with the Labour office first. The new regulations and forms look somewhat more intimidating but I don't think they are really being much more strict on qualifications and experience than before.

I think the OP needs to clarify their position before detailed info is given.

I wasn't asked for any transcripts or documentation for my work permit (obtained recently) then again I wasn't wanting to become a teacher either...

This was in BKK if that helps the OP...

Thanks for the replies.

I will be working in a managerial position and I have experience and training in the field of work I will be doing.

I don't need a degree for this position but the company who is arranging the WP said that i need to get some type of document that verifies I studied at the college i attended. I don't think this is possible as the college only leeps records of past students for 7 years.

Cheers

Their might be a central register, perhaps by the ministry of education.

The "clue" is here " I completed secondary school in the UK about 30 years ago and took CSE/O'level exams"

This tell us that the OP probably left school at the age of 16+ with a minimal record of academic achievement.

After 30 years even if the old school attended still exists the old records will have long ago been destroyed. If the OP has retained his CSE/O level certificates they are verifiable (depending on the awarding body)

No "central register", to my knowledge, exists and certainly not at the Ministry of Education!

Thanks for the response Sceptict. You should be a detective I don't think you added anything to what I posted in my opening post.
