Thoughts on new iphones 5S & 5C

I was watching Thai channel 3 the other morning (Sorayuth) and they were all getting excited about the 5C costing around 12K Baht. How wrong they were!! More like 17-18K for the 16gig version. Quite disappointing really.

My iPhone 5 is obsolete already! In the Apple store it's either 5C, 5S or 4S.

What do you guys think? Will the Thais go for the 5C or the 5S? Or will most just stick with cheaper Android models.

Overpriced junk and if people are desperate to "upgrade" to something that's basically the same, they're dumber than I thought.

Overpriced yes but I wouldn't call it junk. I bet there were lots of people expecting a 3-400 bucks iPhone.

Apple has already died, the vision was steve.

People wanted and expected a more affordable model. The 5C serves no purpose except reducing sales of the 5S... the price difference is minimal and it is more than the 4S that is still on sale.

They have undercut themselves at a time when market share is low compared to android and profits not strong.

I was a fan of steves perfection and quality, macs have deteriorated for years and the latest couple of iphone releases are likely to create the next phone to follow blackberry....world class to failing average.(not bad but not whats expected).

Though to be honest could say the same criticism about samsungs gear watch. That one I was looking forward too but disapointing.... maybe apples given up on phones and preparing for watches!

As another poster mentioned overpriced, most definitely, junk, certainly not. The whole package can help you run your modern day life now. Afraid, that's how the world is now.

I wouldn't call people dumb for upgrading if they have the money or the interest - though not for me, mainly for the cost I disagree with and the 4S does all that I want a phone to do, so why upgrade? - people often go out and buy upgrade versions of games, upgrade versions of cars and so on. If that's their interest and their own money, a bit needless, yes, but not dumb.

The 5c is not put in the market as a budget phone. Apple also never claimed it would. The 5c is technically identical to the current 5, just a little plastic and a few thousand baht cheaper than the 5. That's also why the 5 will stop to be sold.

The 5s is the latest top end smartphone to stay ahead of competition (at least until in a few months time Samsung comes with their next model). They could have kept selling the 5 at a discount and not introduce the 5c, but then there would be no opticsl difference with the new 5s. The new line up 4s, 5c, 5s is actually pretty good in my opinion.

But the value for money for the new 5s is really good in my opinion, fully 64 bit, twice as fast CPU and gpu as predecessor and with a dedicated motion processor (will make for some very interesting application possibilities!) Personally I can now start work on the next generation of my awesome ZeroShake app thanks to the tech specs of the latest iPhone.

I too bought into the "cheap" iphone 5c myth, but to be fair Apple never said it was going to be cheap. My 3gs is long in the tooth, but still works. I recently put a new battery in it as the old one was a joke. The new one is not much better, but charges very quickly. Being a Chinese copy it is heavier than the original.

I'd like to move to the nokia lumia 720, but W8 does not support the Paiboon talking Thai/English dictionary which is a must have app for me. I like Apple products and have a macbookpro, but i'm fed up with Apple's pricing and not sure i want to pay more than double the price of a Lumia 720 for a 5c. The 720 is a fantastic bargain. My missus has the 620 which is also an outstanding phone at a very fair price. If Paiboon got their acts together i would happily move to Nokia.

I don't believe Apple's quality has fallen, but i'm always perplexed at the idea of Jobs as a visionary. No doubt he was a marketing wizard, but i've noticed that many Thai's i meet think he was an inventor. Correct me if i'm wrong, but Jobs never invented anything did he?

I totally agree with you about Apple undercutting themselves. It seems to me they've missed a huge opportunity with this pricing strategy.

Your iPhone 5 is not obsolete by any means. Stick with the 5 for another year :)

I know Dave the 5C is a 5 with a plastic back. I will hopefully get another 2 years out of this baby! I will be very interested to see which one sells the best in Thailand in the coming months but looks like my Mrs will be sticking with Android!

I also expected that the 5C would not be more than 400 USD. That would be a really cheaper option.

But in the End you pay 50 USD less than 5S for and colored like iPhone 5.

The best thing is to gap the 5C and stick with your 5 or upgrade to 5S.

5C is just colored garbage.

I dont agree with this at all. The changes and increase in technical performance are remarkable. From a user perspective though, I am not surprised that people are a bit disappointed. Users tend to seek more "touchable" improvements rather than changes to technical architecture. It's as far from "same" as you can get.

Wait until a company develops a 3D game and sticks it on 5S...
