"Auto" Power Window Problem...

Featured Replies

2002 Honda CRV. Driver's window gone bonkers in 'auto' mode.

Opens and closes just fine in manual mode (quick taps of the button to set it where you want it).

Auto mode opens just fine.

Auto mode close has gone nuts. Fully closes, then winds back a few inches.

It started off as a major irritation but now that I've got the timing just right (tap the button to stop it when it reaches the top) most of the time, it's now only a minor irritation.

Anyone seen this? Easy fix (dodgy sensor?) or expensive fix (new motor)?

Edit: Alternatively, if it's expensive, is it easy to disable 'auto' and turn it into a bog standard power window?

1999 Ford Ranger with a similar sounding problem

It costed 3,400 baht to repair. had to change out the motor

Did you read the manual? Usually power windows can go nuts so there is a "reset" procedure described in the manual..

I don't have a manual but thank you for reminding me I hadn't tried what's usually my first port of call, Google... I need to end my sabbatical and go find some work, my mind's going rusty... facepalm.gif

Tried one lengthy procedure to 'reset' the thing, didn't work. Noted that "problems usually occur after the battery has been disconnected" so I disconnected the battery for 5 minutes. Now the window goes up and down but no 'auto'.

Reset again per aforementioned procedure, and voila... solved.

When the battery is near the end of it's life too, this stuff can happen.
