FYI immigration officers can also be corrupt. I fulfilled every requirement but the officer kept demanding additional *proof* such as a copy of my debit VISA card etc, until time expired and i had to get out of the country

If your extension is based on income through a statement from your embassy, you must provide a copy of a debit card to affirm that you have an account that your money is deposited to here and you have access to that money. They introduced that rule about three years ago. No corruption involved. Just a misunderstanding on your part, or maybe you couldn't provide the proof that they now require. It was no problem for me...

1] It was more than 3 years ago, probably around 6

2] I came with slips from ATM and bank withdrawals for hundreds of thousands when she requested that,

then when that didnt stop me, she demanded a copy of my ATM ! Now ftw kind of government official do that unless its yet another scam to extract my bank account ?

A bit paranoid? I just gave them a copy of the front of an ATM card as is now required when using income from overseas. Six years ago there was no such requirement. I used a Thai account with virtually nothing it i though as I have three Thai accounts. They can't use it online anyway as you have to register an ATM card to do that with the bank here and have the security code from the back as well to do anything like that. As said, I've never had any problem with immigration or my banks here in 8 years... Did you have a Thai account or only a foreign account? I never been asked for my bank book or a statement from any bank other than when I applied in my home country for my non immigrant visa.

I had a thai bank account but used my pension as the qualifier for visa,

that pension statement was then double-stamped proofed both at my embassy and some thai hole in bkk.

However that was not enuff for the immigration officer, she saw the chance to delay and deny approval

until time was going to run out by first demanding proof that i had actually brought over money to thailand, and when i did that from atm slips and bank transfer inside the bank, she thought hard for a minute and then came up with the idea of demanding a copy of my atm.

At that point, it was clear that she would keep on requiring made up stuff so i yet again would run out of time

Daylight robbery?

Why did the lawyer allegedly give Immigrations Baht 17,000 instead of Baht 1,900 for the extension and then it was Baht 19,000 + Baht 4000 + Baht 800?

First he said:

Had Joy the Patong lawyer get 1 of her staff to do my 1 year married person visa. I gave her my bank statements and passport and photos. The visa was granted. The lawyer (staffers) has asked for 27'000 baht for her costs and her efforts. I asked her how many hours she spent working on my visa and she said she went from patong to immigration office about 4 times and that amounted to about 12 hours work. I asked her how much money did she pay the government and she said 17'000 baht. So I asked her did she think it reasonable to charge 10'000 baht for 12 hours work. She said her work was very hard.

Then he said:

Well it's me and my thai wife. It's just a 1 year extension I have them do it every year. They say they pay immigration 19'000 baht for 1 year extension, 4000 baht for re-entry fee (though I haven't left the island) and 800 baht for 3 month report, the rest they keep.

The story is a little inconsistent or confused.

Yep, it seems for me to get a thai married visa I may need a work permit. (which I don't have) I'm told if I go myself, immigration will want me to explain where my money comes from and show proof of tax paid my country. 1 reason I live here is so I don't have to pay tax. (except for VAT) In any case my lawyer says she pays a fee of 19'000 baht in corruption money and she openly states that. She said if I do it my self it will cost about 3'000 to 7'000 depending on a re-entry permit tagged on. But they may not grant me a visa as I have no work permit and no proven source of income. So it seems I'm stuck with the 27'000 baht fee. No great hardship and a lot better than flying in and out of the kingdom every 3 months. (which is what I used to do to get a visa and does cost much more than 27'000 baht) I hope the less fortunate don't get stuck with corruption like me. Next year I may have a go at doing it myself if someone reputable here thinks I can.

Bullshit! I never pay one baht in corruption money to immigration. Oh,they have asked, but my answer is NO. The marriage extension is straightforward. Do your due diligence (your homework), have all your ducks in a row, and if you qualify, you'll get it. If you are too lazy to do the homework, or too scared to try it yourself, then py a lawyer 27,000 baht and don't complain. It seems like every lawyer fee I have ever herd of in this country starts at 20,000 baht.

If you pay corruption money to immigration, you're a fool, and disservice to the rest of us.

A work permit has nothing to do with it, so forget that.

Wrong about the work permit. If you read LIK's post you will see you need to show proof of funds either 400,000 in the bank or 40,000 income every month & that income can come from working Thailand. This is how I do my married visa every year & my proof of income is based on my WP & income tax records.
