For a Farang it is important to find some common-ground with Thai/GF as far as communication is concerned. I have discovered a few subjects, that will capture the undivided attention of any Thai/GF (she may actually put her mobile-phone aside.)

Like:

- "In witch boutiques will we go shopping tomorrow?"

- "About the house, darling" (Farang starts to draw crude house-plans on a napkin.)

- "Your brother surely need new motorbike, is he rather the Yamaha or the Suzuki type?"

- "Where should we go gamble next time? Poipet or Macao?"

To carry an interesting conversation, the Farang must stay with subjects like this. If not, there is a strong likelihood, that the conversation will dwindle down to some gibberish trivialities and assorted nonsense. Hard on a Farang in the long run.

Studies from the university of Nakhom Bum Gun show, that this is a main reason, why so many Farangs end up as alcoholics or worse. As a first warning sign was mentioned: " When foreigners start to prefer to talk to their mirror-image instead to their Thai/GF,"wink.png

Cheers.

You definitely have had a sheltered time in Thailand.

Either that or you do not know many Thais.

Ha sheltered! More like in hiding from the overseas child protection bureau.

It's in the post, not a case of if but when!

This thread has been put up several times but I would like to point something out. Thai men talk with their Thai wives as much as farang men talk with their Thai wives and mostly about the same subjects (at least in my experience). Also, most of my friends back home are in the same boat. Their wives want to talk about shopping, kids, and future plans while the guys want to piss off with their friends and watch sports.

What the xxxx is the difference?

Your Thai wife is half the size - there's your difference.

My "common ground" is I do what I want and she does what she wants and it usually erupts into an unbelievable battle. I'm sure that many Thais think that we are absolutely "nuts" as we fight until one of us can't keep a straight face and starts laughing!. We've done this for the last 15 years of our marriage and many years before that. Do we get along on a daily basis? Just? Do we love to hate each other? Defineatly? Seems like a normal relationship to me!

Stop drinking alone out in the village op. Its sending you over the edge.

Ps, your humour sucks.

Never-mind humor or not. For plenty of Farangs REALITY in Thailand is hard to accept, Reality really "sucks", doesn't it?

Good reading for today: Look up under "Thailand-News" the thread "Hundreds of westerners living on the streets of Thailand" plus posts commenting on that subject.

Quite educational, I find.

Cheers.

I am flattered, that my post from way back then, has left such a lasting impression on you. = An essay on how laws and social acceptances change over the centuries.

Another shock to you: Some 300 years ago, it was common practice to burn women associated with witchcraft at the stake.

Not to worry, I will not write an essay concerning this subject because you will probably conclude, that I am in favor of burning all the Bar-Ladies of Pattaya at the stake.cheesy.gif

To you personally I recommend more CHITTY and less CHANG-CHANG. (To avoid misinterpretation again, I assume "Chitty" is your first name and "Chang" is your favored beverage.)

Cheers.
