BANGKOK: -- SUVARNABHUMI AIRPORT claims to be the first in the world to house a district court on its premises - a move undertaken to make it convenient for tourists to lodge complaints there. Airports of Thailand chairman Sita Divari said yesterday the court would open on September 23, and will accept complaints around the clock.

He saw the court as a way to improve services, which must be done along with some operational adjustments after the accident involving a Thai Airways plane that skidded off a runway last Sunday.

"Suvarnabhumi Airport accommodates about 150,000 passengers per day and this plan is not against the law. This will improve their convenience and demonstrate our care for their safety," the AOT chief said.

Sita said the big court office was an improvement in passenger-related convenience at Suvarnabhumi, following the September 8 accident, which was the worst since the airport opened in 2006.

He praised all parties for their cooperation but said the AOT would see how its rescue operations could be improved, especially the evacuation of passengers from the aircraft to the terminal.

Normally, airlines are in charge of evacuations, but the AOT may take over this job, as its staff were more familiar with the runway and airport premises. During the THAI accident, passengers were escorted to normal entry channels. AOT staff could have brought them to an emergency lounge where immigration officers could deal with the crisis.

Emergency drills will also be hosted in cooperation |with outside organisations including airlines, before they are limited only to internal units.

Meanwhile, the AOT board of directors will finalise the budget for construction of a spare runway at a meeting on September 17.

Dear Thailand?

I would have used different words describing an absolute corrupt country.

AOT holds emergency drill, builds confidence among passengers

BANGKOK, 14 September 2013 (NNT) – The Airport of Thailand (AOT) has held an emergency drill and a rescue mission, while assuring all sides that its readiness and standard meet the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Chairman of Airport of Thailand Sita Divari led a group of media to observe the emergency drill and rescue mission performed by the AOT officials. He said the drill was held with an aim to regain confidence among airlines and passengers.

According to the chairman, the operations of the firefighters and the rescue team on September 8th were effective. However, he said some mistakes will have to be corrected and must not be repeated in the future, adding that lessons learnt from the September 8th incident will help the officers perform faster and more cautious next time.

He also affirmed that the AOT’s fire and rescue departments are in line with the standard requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

On September 8th, Thai Airways International Airbus 330 from Guangzhou, China, skidded off the runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport as it was landing on, causing damage to its propellers and putting a fire at the right landing gear near the engine. Rescue officials have put out the fire and evacuated all the passengers to safety. 12 people among the 287 passengers on board the TG 679 flight were injured from shock and smoke choking.

Get off to a good start, and drag in all the corrupt leaches that operate around the airport arrivals/departures.

Take to court the overpricing of DUTY FREE goods at the monopoly shop, and any other outlet way overcharging for food and bev., The excuse of "Well this is the airport and our prices are always higher than everywhere" WHY ??????

Use the court for everything, get Judge Judy on the payroll. Brill.

Sends an interesting message to arrivals in my view.

You are now entering a lawless county where the law is biased against foreigners, we have established a court here at the airport so as cases can be tried very quickly and verdicts delivered like pizza's within 30 minutes. Thus any excess funds you may have access to will be then transferred into the courts officials and the police officers private account .

Thank you and goodbye. Do please come again and tell all your friends what a wonderful industry our tourism sector is.

Think of the message this is sending to arriving tourists (and others). It's telling them that the moment you set foot in Thailand you are going to have problems. What a great advertisement for the country.

I hope this isn't too simplistic but what's the use of a court at the airport ?

How many arriving passengers will have a Thai related complaint to make and I mean in general not the airline ?

If departing passengers wait to complain at the airport I would suggest they've left it far too late.

Seems like another publicity seeking dog and pony show but would welcome suggsetions as to what I may be missing.

Yep, just another headline. It seem like any "Powers That Be" are all seeking headlines to appear to be doing something. And in the end nothing gets done by any of them. Especially the governing party of this country.

Just another pie in the sky idea , that will cost lots of money , achieve nothing and lead to no where, except into some one's pocket.coffee1.gif

I know we are in a country, where most people find difficult to connect even two dots, but can someone please explain to me, how AOT, who are supposed to be in charge of running the airports in Thailand, can open a court? Under whos juresdiction?

I understand, that the Ministery of Justice can rent space from AOT to open a new district-court, but according to the OP, the "court" is going to be operated by AOT? Who are going to be the judges seat?

Boardmembers from AOT, taxitouts and taxfreescammers ?

Not that it would make a big difference from the "real" system! sad.png

I am not a betting man, but I bet ya, this will never see the light of day.

Good grief, who writes this stuff? Seriously.

Propellors on an A330 Airbus? Really/ Have I missed something. The last aicraft I flew in with Propellors, apart from C47 Dakotas in the last couple of years, was a Vickers Viscount on the last flight from LHA on 31 Dec 1977!

What's next? A floating court in Phuket to handle the jet ski scams?

Great idea !!! All those Youtube videos showing the jet ski mafia beating up Indian tourists is

so bad for tourism. An onsite court system could quickly and efficiently relieve these tourists

of 30,000 baht for a scratch on the jet ski, and no more bad publicity for Thailand !!! Win win....

The tourist makes their complaint, gets on the plane and goes home. The case is closed. The clean up rate of complaints will be almost 100% This court will become the HUB of the Thai Judicial system

I read the article twice as i didn't see the link between court and handling an accident such as the Thai Air one. How would a local court help an accident such as this? Thai legal proceedings are notoriously slow, so how would having a local court handle issues with people who are either leaving the country or will only be incountry for a couple of weeks?

And the tourist is then counter-sued on the spot for defamation and must post 50,000 baht bond to catch flight before it leaves. See how it works?
