Has anybody ever experinced 3 tier pricing, for their Thai National half western kids? Not the Thai price, not the foreign but a number in the middle.

I think I just have with my son.

How did that happen? Did your son come home and tell you?

If you were there, maybe your son got a small discount for you, because he is half Thai. Maybe you should take him shopping more often. smile.pngsmile.png

We might even have a quadruple system one day whistling.gif , with all the tourists that don't spend much when they come; or are down on their luck as we are reading about. We might have Thai, Asian / half Thai, Foreigners who look like they can afford it and Foreigners who look like they cannot pay top price.

Ironically that would be a step forward as it would mean recognising that not all Farang can or will pay top dollar.

Three tier pricing is in place at a certain international hospital here: Lowest pride: Thai national, Median price: Expat resident, Highest price: Tourist. That some hospital is one of those that complains about those tourists who don't pay their bills - the height of hypocrisy.

Another up market hospital has a multi level pricing scheme.

When I was in need of a room, and not in a fit state to negotiate, the room price quoted was astronomical.

I got the TG in to negotiate, who explained I was an expat and no insurance company was involved, and the price reduced dramatically several times.

It again reduced by 40% when I joined one of their privilege membership schemes.

The disappointing thing here is that nobody seems shocked.. this worries me, as it is all what we have come to expect.

I worry for my children, though they are 100% Thai according to their birth certificates and law, just like the Indian or Chinese Thai's, they are white as a bone and likely to face this discrimination as they grow up. Its going to be lovely explaining it too them.. Oh well...

I think a lot will depend on the school you send them to.

Are you really shocked at anything that happens down here in the O.K Corral ?
