Land Travel from Bangkok to Krabi

Featured Replies

I am a patient fellow and enjoy looking out the window and stopping and seeing some parts of the country. I am looking at traveling from Bangkok down to Krabi by land. I don't want a long single bus or train ride. Is taking the train from Bangkok (Hualamong) station to Chumphoon down the coast, staying a few nights in a hotel, then taking a bus down to Krabi doable? Has anybody done that? It looks like that would break up each travel day into about 6 hours each which would be perfect.

Take a taxi, I think they will do it for THB 10'000 and stop for you wherever you want

Or, get on the train from Chumporn to Surat, then get the bus to Krabi. BTW it's a fantastic drive from Surat to Krabi on highway 44 - might want to consider hiring a car for that leg.

Thanks. It looks like the train from Bangkok to Chumporn takes about 8 hours and there is an 8 AM train. That would be an OK day trip. And it looks like taking the train from Chumporn to Surat then the bus from Surat to Krabi takes a total of just over 6 hours so that looks pretty decent too. I have driven a motor scooter a little bit when I have been in Thailand. I have never driven a car. I am from the USA and driving on the left (or any side as the Thais often do) is a bit scarey. I drove for a little while in Jamaica a few years back and I didn't mind the straight stretches of road, but once I get to an intersection, and had to turn, it just seemed like too many ways I might accidentally do something really bad.
