September 17, 201312 yr In 1966 it took three sky crane helicopters to lift the thirty foot tall statue from Bien Hoa, Vietnam and deliver it to a mountain top near the northern border of Thailand. Although the statue of a woman wearing a long gown may be of religious significance to some, it was to the US military a beacon for aircraft. Made of white stone, carved by Buddhist monks, it is indeed a thing of beauty. My quest is to find the location and photograph from the air, if it remains. The area in 1966 was very remote and probably still is with no roads. So the only chance to find it may be someone that flies the golden triangle area with light aircraft may know.
