Google starts roll-out of new home page

MOUNTAIN VIEW: -- Google started the roll-out of its redesigned home page Thursday in a move designed to standardize the way users interact with its services across smartphones, tablets and PCs.

The revamp of the most popular page on the internet reduces the number of options users will see directly and requires them to click on a Google Plus tab, or an Apps tab to access many of the company's services.

The famous search box remains largely unchanged but Google did tweak the colours and shading of its logo.

According to a blog posting by Google manager Eddie Kessler, the redesigned page will be rolled out to all Google users around the world in the next few weeks.

"Getting around Google should be seamless, and once you're inside an app, you don't want any distractions," Kessler said. "So we're introducing an updated Google bar that streamlines your experience across products and devices."

There is a power saving version of google that not many people know about. When you use the page it tells you how many millions of Watt hours have been saved by using this option - it's well cool! type the word blackle instead of google and check it out! You need the .com at the end of course...

Companies making changes always say it is for the customers benefit. Not always true.
