United 787 Nightmare Denver Tokyo BKK

Featured Replies

Halfway to Narita Yesterday flight 132 Denver Tokyo had flap problems and performed an emergency landing. I was sitting on the wing and the spoilers worked but lower flaps did not deploy. We landed hot-our airspeed was about 240mph. The pilots did a great job. I am stuck in seatlle now as unbelievably my sfo connection was struck by lighting. They are threatening to get me there sunday via taipay and eva air. I am actually looking forward to my airasia flight Monday at DM..........

Watch out for Usagi!

surprised its not on the news, they like to report all dreamliner issues

240mph? Must've been a big bump

I was suprised it did not make the news also. A fellow pax told me Expedia had the information.( I asked that very question in an e-mail to United and got no response.) As United has ordered several more 787's-I think about 50 and it has had made a troubled entry into the marketplace they are not going to phone the press themselves and invite them to the scene of the landing. Again, the pilots did a great job.

request/demand an upgrade to Eva's Econ Deluxe class...

safe onward flight.

Say your prayers. Thank heavens it's a dreamliner, a tuborlov might have gone on to space instead of landing safely at even high speed.

Dreamliner will be here for a long time, it's a very good plane.that might have been rushed into service.

Just like you got a hot sexy gf, you can't wait to get to 2nd base.

Not seeing any reports in the usual places for this alleged incident. Where did you get you landing speed figure from?

Calling bullshit on this one.

At least it didn't catch fire.

UA132 is a scheduled route from IAD (Washington Dulles) to MUC (Munich)

sounds like your not having much luck with the planes, maybe take a few days in Seattle and relax before attempting to fly againunsure.png

sounds like the 787 planes are still undergoing testing, and carrying passengers while doing so.

Strange that the only thing google knows about this is the OP's post about it, already. LINK

It was flight 139. Not that I need one but in my defense I was up for over 30 hours making the usual sleeping transition and had been asleep for maybe 30 minutes when the plane did a big jolting thud followed by a pilots announcement that for precautionary reasons "we are diverting to Anchorage and will land in about one hour." The plane was met by the fire-dept on the runway and escorted to the gate. After about an hour we were shuttled to 2 hotels the Marriot and the Captain Cook Hotel for 3 hours and then returned to the airport for a chartered 6am Alaska Air flight to seatlle. All but 16 of us made that flight. The unlucky 16(myself included) were booked on a 1100 Seattle flight. IMHO United should have brought a plane to Anchorange to continue the Narita leg. I did fly EVA here to Taipei. That flight was full as I did ask for an upgrade after trying to switch to Singapore Air to S'pore with no luck. Compensation wise United by email offered me $300 in USA domestic flights or 7500 ff miles neither of which I accepted. They have coughed up $70 in food vouchers but have been useless for the most part. For example I really wanted to take a shower after 50 hours-an easy remedy. A fellow pax just told me they gave him 4 hours at the Double tree SFO as he was on the same Eva flight here. You really have not done much flying lately if you don't know that airspeed and flight path are made available to everyone onboard.....

Not sure where people are (or are obviously not) looking but this is confirmed incident -

OP - Sorry to hear about your delays, hope you get some decent compo.

But you were sitting on the wing??

Sorry, couldn't resist that one :-)

No, I'm not believing this either, so without video evidence, fellow passenger testimony, media coverage, scanned copies of receipts and a complete set of steak knives I steadfastly refuse to believe this story. There you go all you bored tossers out there, I've covered it for you, so you can go off to another thread and start an argument there.

Isn't this the second time a UA 787dreamliner made an emergency landing in Seattle from Denver. This flight was supposed to

go directly to Narita but deviated to Seattle for its trouble, if I remember correctly it was around June 19 as I was in Narita transiting

on UA flight to Bangkok and heard an announcement within the Narita terminal about this.

request/demand an upgrade to Eva's Econ Deluxe class...

safe onward flight.

Or, just be happy your ok. Its better to be on the ground wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were on the ground right.

Today the journalists are very biased undoubtedly, one way or another. Hence the news we read aren't 100% reliable or true always.

Recently two rotters forced an Airbus A330 with 267 passengers on board to divert and make an emergency landing.

The news was widely published with the airlines name given priority, but the two vermins nationality was never published.

Seems like UA chartered an AS aircraft to ferry pas to SEA, for flghts on to NRT on UA, NH, DL.

Some of the ETOPS landing options, were another different component failure to occur, on these (near-) polar routes are sketchy, especially with a flap problem so probably best that they turned around, to land at a more robust airport?

It is now reported from the link above - "The aircraft landed safely on Anchorage's runway 07R at a substantially higher than normal speed (around 190 knots over ground) " 190 knots = 218 mph

//edit - the normal landing speed for a 787 is 139-145 knots or 160-167 mph

I'm looking forward to my first 787 flight in November.

Wow United sure ard having issues with that Denver to Narita 139 flight, as mentioned above by another poster it also made an emgency landing at Seattle on the 18th of June.

I wonder why the OP is stuck in Seattle when this current emgency landing was made in Anchorage ?

hahahaha egg on face..

I can see hanging onto a wing at 160.

But 240? No way.

UA 139 diverted to ANC.

UA chartered an AS aircraft to ferry the 144 pax to SEA, maybe the easiest/best/closest spot to hook up with enough metal to NRT? It looks like all but 16 pax went out on UA, NH, DL. Presumably those 16 pax went out on UA metal the following day?

I think UA have seven (7) 787's in service now - another two awaiting delivery and one in FAT.

Denver – Tokyo Narita (Commenced)

Houston – Lagos (Commenced)
Houston – London Heathrow – Starts 20 December 2013
Los Angeles - Tokyo Narita (Commenced)
Los Angeles – Shanghai (Commenced)
Some also fly domestic routes.
