Private Dressed As General To Get Free Drinks
By Khaosod Online

BANGKOK: -- A soldier has been arrested for disguising himself as a Lieutenant General to bully a bar owner into voiding his bills.

Ms. Orn-Uma Sukkasem, 57, the owner of Tukta Cafe and Karaoke Bar in Nonthaburi Province, told the police that Pvt. Chatchai Sribung-ngaw, 21, had been drinking and eating at her bar on the night of 19 September. He also reportedly summoned a waitress to drink with him.

When Ms. Orn-Uma′s bar closed down after midnight, she presented a bill of 1,800 baht to Pvt. Chatchai, who reportedly complained the price was too high. Ms. Orn-Uma said she agreed to give him a discount of 500 baht, but Pvt. Chatchai still refused to pay the bill.

The Private eventually walked to his van in the parking lot, and came back dressed as a Lieutenant General. He threatened Ms. Orn-Uma that he would have her business closed down for good, according to the owner. She called police soon afterwards.

When the police interrogated Pvt. Chatchai, he said he was actually a Captain in the Royal Thai Army, and that the uniform belonged to his father. The police ran a quick check and realised that the uniform in fact belonged to Lt.Gen. Pavaris Jamsawaeng, Director of Tourism Department of the Royal Thai Army, who is not related to Pvt. Chatchai.

The man also failed to answer which year he graduated from the cadet academy, and was unable to explain how a 21-year-old man like him can earn such a high-ranking army decoration so quickly.

Pvt.Chatchai later confessed that he was actually a private serving as a driver for Lt.Gen.Pavaris. His boss was sleeping, Pvt. Chatchai said, so he drove the van out for drinks.

Ms. Orn-Uma asked Pvt. Chatchai to pay for his meal, but he said he only had a few hundreds baht. Ms. Orn-Uma then took the money, and did not file any charge against him, saying it would be waste of her time.

However, the police said they must proceed with the charge of wearing Army uniform without permission against Pvt. Chatchai. The soldier will be investigated by a joint unit between Ministry of Defense and Royal Thai Police.

Bless my soul soon be as many privates as there are generals in the Thai army

Would the aforementioned general be responsible for the well being of Thai soldiers sent to such delightful resorts of Afghanistan, Iraq, attached to U.N. forces etc etc?

What budget allocation does he get from T.A.T.,?

Now we see how tourist figures jump, every time a private moves he's or she's a tourist!!!

I like the bit about not being able to explain how one so young could attain such a high rank so quickly.

Well TIT and there's a 101 perfectly sound answers.

Remember the whole of the military is concerned with business, not defending the country.

Why has the army got a General for a Tourist Department?

Lots of lawns to mow... Cars to clean...

Where would he get the idea that the military could force a shutdown?

Why has the army got a General for a Tourist Department?

Maybe they are about to open a theme park

"a twenty-one year old Ltn. General" = contradiction-in-terms !

I've met a couple of Thai Army Generals in my time here, they were well educated with a good command of English, very decent men.... and I doubt you'd have the balls to be so rude to their face.........

I think someone is in deep doo doo, it doesn't matter where you are, for an enlisted man to impersonate an officer is a serious offence.

??? The length and breadth of Thailand people impersonate police officers

most are actually salaried

Bad behavior = bad results. Nothing funny about this other than his sheer stupidity.

The bloke in question isn't a general.

But since you've raised the point about the alleged decency of the Generals you have met, can you confirm that they live off their salary and are not in any way involved in corrupt business practices in the course of serving their country?

Or are they like the two Generals I have met (correction, met one, only saw the other getting into his black Merc from a distance) - both involved in constructing new housing villages using army labour and equipment on land that was acquired through less than legitimate means, and using strong arm tactics to secure favourable pricing from suppliers with threats of them not receiving any further business from the army? Also possibly billing the army for some of the raw materials and services I strongly suspect.

And before you question my source, I'm distantly related by marriage to the one that I met, so the details of his escapades are well known throughout the family.

Next time you see me taking a light hearted poke at something as childish as a muppet Private dressing up as a General, don't take a high moral ground about something you obviously know frig all about, or question the size of my balls, thumbsup.gif

He's way too skinny, and the uniform shirt is way too baggy. Dead giveaway

In LOS, Generals are old, fat, and wear shirts at least one size too small.

A. because they can, B. they have so many generals so they create a faux position.. that's why..

Why has the army got a General for a Tourist Department?

Professional driver, on the turps in a service vehicle; & since when do Generals do self-drive vans?

The mind boggles!

Department of tourism in the RTA? blink.png Why does the army have a tourism department?wacko.png

Why has the army got a General for a Tourist Department?

Maybe it's one of those inactive posts?

Neither the gravitas nor the haircut to carry off such a scam.

Also why would rank have any impact on someone who is not in uniform? Pvt Stupid will not be promoted.
