Does anybody know when Singkhorn immigration will open ?

Featured Replies

Does any anybody know when Singkhorn immigration at Prachuap Khiri Khan on the border with Myanmar will be open for Visa runs.

What I mean is the 90 day border runs which is available at the Ranong, Andaman Club crossing

I know that we are told that it will open up shortly (2012), but does anybody know or have a date ??

^^ above article is not about foreigners going in/out. i was at the ceremony and this border has simply been upgraded as "proper border" for thai/myanmar trade (sofar). before it was some grey-zone border with little control (customs office was empty most of the time). i've been inside there twice (without having my passport stamped, mawdaung pass it is called, as is the village on the burmese side). last time was a few months back. on both sides they were not set up yet to deal with proper immigration stuff (for farang). it will happen one day though.

ps. thais friends told me they will (soon) enter as "daytrippers" with minivan driving up to myeik. farang cannot (yet).

Think that's like asking 'When will falangs be able to own land' biggrin.png

the thai are repairing the road to myeik, the latter has always been in utterly poor condition (and gets mostly travelled by motor cycles: mawdaung -> tennasserim -> myeik: 5-8 hours) , a bit like the road going from myawaddy to kawkareik. the thai (ital-thai) are not repairing the road for us farang, haha. they have a lot of interest in that part of myanmar (gulf <-> andaman shortcut + coalmine just accross the border) and plenty of thai entrepreneurs prospected the myeik area (fishing, rubber, palmoil, etc). there will also come a casino. in other words: i fear this will mainly be a private bpama/thai party.

That crossing (Mae Sot to Myawaddy) is already open for everyone - the upgrading of the road between Myawaddy and Kawkareik is for Myanmar and Thailand's benefit and will benefit all those who travel along it.

If you want to travel to Myeik from Kanchanaburi now, go to the Phu Nam Ron crossing, which apparently also opened on Aug 28 although no trip reports have come back yet. As for Dan Singkorn, wait another 6 months or so, they'll open it up officially soon enough.

Thais won't be able to bring their own car across though, only Myanmar registered vehicles can travel across that crossing so tell your friends if they want to drive their car to Myeik they can forget about it, as it won't be allowed. Only way you can drive your own Thai registered car across to Myanmar is to join a convoy tour and enter and exit via Myawaddy. This may change soon, but not yet.
