Best of luck with that. I can't even find a local handyman willing to be available for work 08.00 - 17.00. I have hired 2 over the past few months, both just wanted to sit and smoke, both fired within the first month.

i know, all i can get is people that want to do 'rap mao' (contract rate for the job) and its crazy expensive for a simple project. when i lived in Ko Phangan, i never had this kind of problem, i could find people for odd jobs for 350-450/day any day of the week

We offer a full time job, an apartment (utilities paid), a motor bike (fuel paid), social security, 9,000 baht/month for a 6 day week, and annual paid holidays, end of year bonus. Mostly very light duties, more of an on call job, but must be ready for emergencies (mostly plumbing and electrical). I give basic training and supervision. Impossible to find anyone really willing to do the job. They all want the high contract rate for a few days, then sit doing nothing (drink/gamble) until they run out of money.

//edit - this is not a job advert so please don't send recommendations. I am just highlighting the problems of finding good staff. I will make do with part time family help //

I've got to say that over a decade of having gardeners/labourers I've found the Burmese work a lot harder and better than the local lads. Burmese also will stick around if you treat them right, whereas the locals will jump to (peceived) easier jobs.

I used to think Burmese make better worker but my last Burmese work crew proved me wrong. They would all just take the day off if they did not feel like working. Usually after they had been paid and they would not start working again until the money ran out. I ended up sacking them all.

Haha.. that is probably a global problem with laborers.. when I was young I was working on a crew roofing houses.. Every payday without fail about half the crew would fail to show up for work until they had run out of money!

Cheers,

Kurt
