What happened to my visa?

Featured Replies

My husband and I have been in Thailand for 9 years. Initially, we were both working, but now that we have two kids, I'm stay home to care for them. The kids and I need Immigrant O visas, obviously. We visit the states every summer and as usual, the kids and I took care of our visas in Boston. Now the gov't liason at my husband's office says our visas will expire in November and we need to pay for them again and extend them for a year.

Why would we have been issued Immigrant O visas for only 3 months? Seem crazy to pay for single entry permits plus visas in July and then do it all again in November. What gives? Is this right?

Thanks all....

If you had re-entry permits you did not need the visas. When you entered on the visas that canceled your extension. Your visa was only for a 90 entry so now you must get a new extension before it ends.

You are saying you obtained new visas in Boston? What does it say on the visa? If multi entry it will say multi and would have cost about $200. If single entry it would have been less than $100 each. If single entry visas you need to extension your stays for 1,900 baht each during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry. This is normal dependent extension of stay if husband is legally working and has a one year extension of stay.

So would it make more financial sense to purchase a multiple entry visa when in the America for the summer? Or no matter what, I still need to pay for an extension because I am dependent? Seems silly that I paid for the visas at all, since now I have to pay again.

I guess I never noticed this before... annoying to say the least!

Extension is much cheaper as there is no need to leave every 90 days for a new entry. Only 1,900 baht per year plus a re-entry permit at 1,000 baht if you want to travel and return on same entry.

Thanks for the info. I don't know why I never noticed these details before. But anyway, I get it now. Thanks again!
