16 people injured in train-truck crash

Nakhon Ratchasima: -- Sixteen people were injured when a passenger hit into an 18-wheel truck crossing the railway in this northeastern province early Monday morning.

The impact sent the truck into a ditch and crossed four compartments of the Bangkok-Nongkhai train to be derailed.

Police said 14 passengers of the train were injured and the drivers of the truck and the train suffered minor injuries.

Police said the truck drive did not see the train, which was approaching, when he drove past the railway at a cross in Nonesung district.

Railway officials took about six hours to salvage the derailed parts of the train and fix the railway section before the train services on the northeastern route could be resumed.

Thankfully no-one was killed and let's hope the injured parties are not too serious. The same type of accidents occur all the time in Canada and the U.S.A., so it's just driver error and inattention.

I expect the truck's insurance will cover the millions of baht in damages to locomotive, passenger cars and opassengers hospital bills? :o

These are always terrible and sad type of accidents. They are also so unnecessary
