samtam
Can anyone recommend child friendly beach resorts in Thailand? Is Phuket still a good destination, or is Krabi better? Has anyone ever used Asia Travel, and do they recommend them? A friend in UK is booking a holiday and seems convinced that it's better to use a local travel agent, (price-wise?) to get the best deal, but I think with internet it probablt makes not a great difference. She has been looking at Asia Travel, but would like some reassurance that it's OK/reliable. Grateful for input.
phuketrichard
phuket is great for kids, and if u have $$ even better ( stay at one of the hotels in the Laguna area) Use travel agent for what? airfares/hotels? youcan do it all by urslef online Kayak.com for airfares and booking.com for hotel, as u pay for the room when u depart, not up front. Le Meridan ( betweeen Patong and Karon beach) would be a great place with kids
craigt3365
You might try Gut at MTT, one of our sponsors. His ad should be displayed on this page. They are based in Thailand.
yogendosan
The best in Thailand is Dolphin Bay Resort in Pran Buri. Check it out on www.dolphinbayresort.com Only about 3 hours due south of Bangkok..... quite area with miles of beach.... not much else to do but relax and play on the beach..... New Owners have installed a nice wooden jungle gym, very good pools both for kids and adults... good rest. and the staff know how to watch over the kids playing.... I know many families that go back year after year..... not so expensive, around 1800THB a night.... parents really like it as they feel their kids are safe to wonder around on their own, to some degree, and make new friends with other kids from around the world....

Yermanee I think pretty much anywhere in Thailand is great, December to March. I think the rains stop in Phuket mid to late November or so??? Morden
I'd suggest White Sand Beach on Koh Chang. The sand and sea are clean and the water shallow. You can eat along the beach, not having to dodge traffic with children in tow.
klikster
Go further south to Baan Krut (Thongchai) in PKK Province. Turn left at 383 km marker. Lots of safe beaches. Numerous guesthouses & resorts at reasonable prices. Beaches south of the big temple on the hill are better, but you have to cross the road to access beaches. North of the temple, many resorts have direct beach access. Noo's Seafood just north of the main 'T' intersection has great food. Just watch out for stray dogs on ANY beach in Thailand. Jay Sata
Hua Hin is not good for kids.Sharp rocks that will cut little feet on some parts of the beach and horse muck everywhere on the sand. I'd take them to Phuket and stay in Karon where the beach is great and there is none of the Patong nightlife. If you want nice beaches and sand forget Krabi and Koh Chang. billybatson
I'm planning a trip to Krabi on my next visit. Looks incredible on all the videos etc. Why do you advise against it, or is it just that its not suitable for young families?
DocN
2 suggestions: Koh Lanta (though it is a bit far off): great shallow beaches. My No1, not only for families is always Khao Lak, especially the beach hotels at Nang Thong. Great beaches, fantastic infrastructure...

As I wrote earlier, I have found White Sand Beach on Koh Chang to be clean and perfect for families. Kacha Resort at the southern end has a swimming pool. http://www.kohchangkacha.com/

phuketrichard
with kids u want more than a nice clean beach; U want a BIG swiming pool or two and kids activities Thavorn Palm on Karon, But u need cross the road to get to the beach Le Merdian between Patong and Karon on their own private beach any of the 4-5 star hotels in laguna on the beach Krabi has the mud flats, not open seas.
Jay Sata
Phuket Richard is correct. Can't argue with his advice. Give Krabi and Hua Hin a miss. Koh Chang is a long way from anywhere and a boat ride at that. Kids will find plenty to do in Phuket. The downside is the taxi mafia.
