BANGKOK: -- Police have arrested five Chinese men who allegedly extorted more than THB100 million from businessmen before fleeing to Thailand.

Han Zhaoying, 21, and four other suspects were nabbed in a raid on an apartment in Ratchadaphisek Soi 3 in Bangkok last Thursday.

Their arrest followed a request from the Chinese embassy in Bangkok for help after the suspects fled to Thailand to avoid arrest in China. [read more...]

I think it's more to do with jurisdiction though, if a country or governmental organization want to make an arrest of an individual in a foreign country, they have to use the host country's police to facilitate it.

BANGKOK: -- The Thai police have arrested 5 Chinese nationals accused for blackmailing businessmen in China.

According to the press conference held at the Investigation Division Immigration Bureau, the group had previously tried to lure money from several companies based in China.

The method of the group is to send emails to various companies, threatening that they would insert computer virus into the victims′ system, unless the companies pay them extortive amount of money, police said.

The blackmailing had caused Chinese businessmen to lose approximately over 100 million baht according to a senior police officer.

The 5 individuals fled to Thailand after the Chinese police issued arrest warrants on the group, following complaints from a number of companies.

Thai police eventually apprehended the suspects on 26 September, acting on the request by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangkok.

According to the police, one suspect had escaped and crossed Thai’s border to a third country. The rest of the groups will be extradited to China as soon as possible.

They didn't "let" them flee China, they fled China when they realized they were about to be caught.

They came to Thailand because they thought they could hide here.

The Chinese authorities however requested the Thai police arrest these crooks.

Wonder if it had anything to do with that "government to government" transfer of all that invisible "rice subsidy" rice the Chinese government supposedly bought but nobody but the Thai government seems to have ever seen.

Talk about a friendly line-up. Sunglasses? Identical sunglasses? It looks as if they were given them prior to the photo op...after one of them claimed to be related to someone. You can almost hear the policeman on the left..."Do you like your sunglasses? Do they fit properly? Sorry they're not K pop quality but it's all the vendor outside had. Is there anything else we can get you?"

They look like the Chinese carbon copy of "1 direction", just like the apple stores in provincial China look like real Apple stores. Or like 5 Psy's all lined up to make everyone (except me perhaps) scream..

Maybe they were so fearsome they caused the shutdown of the US Govt?
