Kick off about to start NZ and France, full house!!!!!Bloody brilliant.

France didn't stand a chance. I am amazed by the difference in ferocity between the two countries. I guess this really makes the difference..

Love the chubby Kiwi.laugh.png.

Quite different sports with similar basics. Union might as well not exist as far as I'm concerned.

http://rugbywrapup.com/2013/09/ref-review-rugby-league-vs-rugby-union-why-the-hate

I found this referee review to be clear and straight.

Perhaps we should go back to where it all started; the division of the Rugby Football Union and the North. Rugby Union has historically been an uncompensated sport for the affluent upper class. However, the North of England did not find that uncompensated sport allowed for the best teams, as the North was a working culture. Here they found that if their players were not paid to miss work, they often could not field full-strength teams. They also couldn’t play as hard, as if they were to get hurt they would not be able to do the manual labour of the north. So, essentially it was a class divide.

So I guess you are with the REF on this one, tw25rw?

Well I suppose it's accurate,, The players often worked for the same people who owned the team, but were expected to play for free (the owners made money from spectators) and went unpaid if they were injured and couldn't work. But that was over 100 yeas ago.

The class thing has worked in union's favour many times, not least in media coverage. Most notorious though was when the French union collaborated with the Vichy regime to outlaw the flourishing league and take possession of the league's assets, which they never gave back after the war.

And there have been plenty of other cases of bastardry where local unions have pressured councils to not let league clubs use public facilities etc.

I just think union is the inferior sport. And having watched league since early childhood, find union frustrating and ugly to watch.

biggrin.png ... not so serious ...

Union Girls are prettier, better dressed and slim.

League Girls have a more ... how does one say ... homely aspect to them.

I used to work with a woman who switched from the Roosters to the Waratahs because "the men dress better".

I thought it was a sporting gesture by the KIWI's when attempting to score a try, the New Zealand player, in the absence of any French Resistance decided to try and tackle his own player.

Sadly, to nil effect.

The Video Umpire was not awoken and the Scoreboard attendant was troubled.

SC ... if you taped it ... get the Iman to watch it and you get some well earned shuteye

World cup helps to promote the sport.

No worries, I agree. Might as well, call it Galaxy cup then, ey..laugh.png

Is it you that comes from NL? There's actually a fledgling competition there and a few clips on youtube of the NL team in action.

Yes, I guess, you have got me at the disadvantage..

Dutch rugby = Australian soccer.

I was drinking with former colleagues who played both sports when younger, in the North of England. I think the consensus was that generally that Union was the more entertaining game to play, even if it was not such an entertaining spectacle to watch. And there was concurrence when one chap said "My father told me, "Son, you might get paid for playing League, but there's more money in Union".

That's clear if you look at the money that HSBC are spending to develop rugby in Asia

I grew up playing both and played in the forwards in Union. So agree it was great to play as I always got involved. Playing outside centre/winger though in the modern game would be such a bore, touch the ball 1-2 times a game, maybe make 1-2 tackles. Fun? No way. Played 5/8 in League and loved that too. Still made more tackles a game and ran the ball many more times than I did playing no.8 in Union. Unfortunately as the years went on, the league players got bigger and bigger (injuries worse and worse). Loved playing both though.

Thoughts on watching Rugby Union these days?

I can sit through a couple of Super Rugby games at most a season, the occasional Bledisloe. 3 hrs from now Eng v Aust.

Penalty goal after penalty goal is a joke in my eyes, would never pay good money to watch this bore of an event live! What happened to exciting rugby in the days of Steve Larkham, Carlos Spencer et al?

At least there is another League game on tonight. smile.png

I must admit I was dissapointed by France. I expected more, at least an all in brawl or two knowing their tactics.

Went to bed at half time.

What a farce modern day RU is. The try by England was the biggest obstruction I have ever seen, pulled up anyday in the real game.

Ok, I apologise, I will not waste my fingers talking that rubbish game anymore on a forum where guys have obviously seen the light (unless replied to my post of course).

I'd have abandoned the Ireland game in place of the Friendly against Australia, but it was on Pay Per View.

Sorry to see Ireland going out, but very tough group

I was watching both games, but started with the Union Game.

Ficked over after about 20 mins to see England lead Ireland by more then 30 points ... I didn't flick back.

Truth be known ... my eyes gave a final flicker and they closed during the ad break after Australia scored ... I woke up with the sparrows farting.

Game on in the League soon.

They give Fiji 40 points start ... they reckon the score will be something like 48-6

I reckon it will be closer then that ... as long as Fiji doesn't 'throw in the towel' and give up tackling.

EDIT ... live cross to the ground ... cats and dogs are falling ... might be a Forwards clash.

I might that that points start ... w00t.gif

Remember the by-line ... gamble responsibly.

So I just raided the kid's piggy bank and they have just over $10 in 5 and 10 cents coins.

Shhh ... don't tell them ... OK ?

Next game in under an hour ... Wales v USA

Scotland vs Italy in just under 3 hours

Wales were by far the better team for two five minute spells, but otherwise, they were their own worst enemies; although USA's defence was excellent when Wales pressured the USA line in the early stages of the second half. I'm amazed Lee Briers isn't playing, though they don't seem to have the wingers that he would need to score the tries off his kicks. Monaghan - isn't that a Welsh name? Or Atkins? Would they qualify if they shagged a sheep? Or set fire to a cottage?

Anyway, they're disembarking their coaches in Workington - the Scots are piping in the coach "Fair fa' yer honest sonsie face, great chieften o' the road transport race"

Tryless after the first quarter of the game, Scotland open up a 14 - 0 lead, but Italy pull back to 14 - 12 down for half time on a cold Cumbrian evening. At least the rain has stopped.

Some great half-time shots of the chip van, bytheway, gives me a bit of a hungering for a haggis supper

fark, all the viponlinesports links are not responding.

What to do...

Never heard of this one before. It says I have to download an app. Is this the form? Safe, do you think? Want to watch some WC games (when time permits), and also the NZ Maoris are up soon. Any advice?

Dont click the BANNERS! Apologies, i forgot to say. In every banner there is a close window X hidden if you look well. By repeating this action 15 times I can watch the games, there.

What a finish! Danny Brough's drop goal is charged down, Italy counter-attack but can't get the ball to their kicker in the middle of the field, and the game ends 30 - 30. Scotland head on to Barton-on-Irwell for their final game against USA at the Salford City stadium on Thursday knowing that a win might still not be enough, as Italy face Tonga next.

Good to see the USA doing well. I have seen clips of the AMNRL on youtube and they play hard. Shame not more people know it's on.

The BBC aren't helping. They have the rights but seem to only show England games and no replays. Of course we get to see the union crap replayed at peak time.

Astro have all the games, though not all live. Last night's were both on live though. The BBC radio coverage is normally very good. In the past, for the odd Superleague games, I've listened to the radio live for Ray French and Allan Rooney, and watched a recording of the television in the morning.
