Did They Understand?

Featured Replies

When you first moved to Thailand, did your children / friends, people you care about, understand life in Thailand ... where ever you call home?

I know I had the devils own job of convincing my sister that Thailand isn't in reality as it is portrayed on the small screen.

NANA is not close to the truth ... SC, Soi Cowboy is a passing trend ... an enjoyable moment.

Nor Chiang Mai an elephants camp, nor Issan a never ending rice paddy.

Or, in the end, did you not bother trying to defend your lifestyle choice to live here and thought FUL, I'm enjoying just being here?

.

After the first half dozen comments about I must be a paedophile, I just told them they had misheard me.

I had moved to Taiwan. Nobody in the UK knows anything about Taiwan, apart from it being near China.

I bet it is much harder to convince those who have actually been to Thailand that it is not all about ugly tattooed younger women.

"I came to Thailand for the Temples"

"I've been to Thailand Bob"

"Oh... darn"

I have given up trying to convince my fellow countryfolk that Thailand is full of decent people doing decent things. No matter what I say, the stereotypes abound.

I think it better this way, now I am settled here, because I wouldnt want them to enjoy my own slice of heaven.

My friends were okay, but my sister thought I was going to an outlet mall.

Can't say I've had any problems. I know tons of people from all ages and sexes who have been to Thailand and they don't associate it with being hooker destination.

Honestly who really cares anyway? I live the good life on the cheap whilst people back home are working jobs they hate, in cities they don't like, struggling to make ends meet.

No loved ones - meaning relatives. I am free!

Friends keep coming in droves to stay for a week or two at my place. Everybody likes it so far.

Love the spot I have chosen. Staying put and happy.

I had to deal with a lot of shit back home, BUT they did not understand the shit that was going on in my head dealing with stuff at home. Noooooooo, not them thinking l was a perv but them worrying about the Thai picture in their minds. Been here a while now and do understand their concerns, but it is my life, l am not a problem to anyone unless they want one. thumbsup.gif

Why worry about what others think...as nike says, just do it.
