NARATHIWAT: -- A shoot-out yesterday in the southern border province of Narathiwat left three suspected insurgents and two policemen dead, including a police major.The gunfight, which lasted about four hours, broke out in the afternoon after policemen laid siege to a house in Narathiwat's Rusoh district. The property was believed to be a hideout for an unknown number of heavily-armed insurgents, police said.Seven suspected insurgents were arrested in the incident. Most of them were wanted in connection with attacks in the region. A number of weapons and explosives were also seized.The slain policemen were identified as Pol Major Atipat Suwanwiwat and Pol Lance Corporal Wichit Odthon. Among the suspected insurgents killed was Abdulrohing Daisoh, wanted by authorities in connection with more than 10 attacks in the South. As if the Thai government would even ask the UN to intervene while seeking to join the security council. Besides this reall isn't a situation that the UN need to be involved in. How many of the insurgents are Malaysian or other foreigners? From reports some leaders are based in Malaysia and some operatives also cross the border, but the majority of the so called armed insurgents (numbers quoted by Thai security agencies approx 5k, with another approx 20k active 'sympathisers') are Thai Muslim nationals.
