October 7, 201312 yr When booting,, the image appears 6-fold. It's quality RAM, and the right type. One day, the computer showed this 6-fold image when booting up. The IT specialist at my work place asked me to re-install Windows 7, which was done. I also tried the old RAM - same problem. The IT engineer proclaimed the notebook "fixed" but it isn't. Q: is it now a brick? Has anyone had this particular issue and can share experience and maybe a solution? Thanks a lot!
October 7, 201312 yr It's difficult to understand the problem from your description. Do you mean that the logo associated with the BIOS booting is tiled (repeated horizontally and vertically), rather than being a single image, centred? If so, that sounds like a BIOS issue, and nothing to do with the new memory. Does the computer continue booting into Windows? Or does it get stuck at the BIOS level?
October 7, 201312 yr If it is a bios logo at start then hit Esc when it shows and see what the start up is doing and where it stops.
October 7, 201312 yr Might be able to help more if you let us know if you upgraded by adding another 2Gb RAM (for a total of 4), or something else occurred. The manuals suggest strongly removing the battery before doing this, but all the computer guys that I have seen don't bother. Might be worth googling, if you don't get a more definite answer. AA
October 7, 201312 yr Same thing with a Live OS? Download and Create an Ubuntu DVD, boot into it and use the Try Ubuntu option. Won't disturb anything on your HDD, but will allow you test your RAM and hardware, including Graphics card.
October 8, 201312 yr If it is proper RAM and the Ubuntu LiveCD shows all is OK then possibly the RAM allocation in the BIOS needs adjustment. Check on such with your IT specialist.
October 8, 201312 yr Guys, thank you so much for your answers!!! I'm a fathead but thanks to your questions, am understanding the problem and ways to find out some facts a bit better. *** at the local computer shop, they say it's the monitor. They want to replace it @ 2,500 B. I doubt that's the case as those 6-fold "tiled" images still look sharp. ^^^ Yes, I upgraded from 2 x 512 MB to 2 x 2 GB brand new Crucial RAM. And no, the battery was not disconnected when the RAM was swapped! Thanks again! Chris
October 8, 201312 yr Originally 1GB RAM? how old is this machine??? Did you enter bios and check what memory the device detected? Does the machine boot into Windows7, or does stop with an error?the tiled spash image sounds like video memory, generally need to replace the entire motherboard unless it's a separate video board.
