Chao Phraya may burst banks Wednesday, Thursday, BMA warns
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok residents living along the Chao Phraya River were warned to brace themselves for possible floods when the Lop Buri-based Pasak Jolasid Dam's discharged water volume will peak Wednesday and Thursday.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Tuesday reckoned that with the dam releasing 700 cubic metres of water per second, the situation is worrying.

"The water level in Chao Phraya River around the Pak Klong Talad in Bangkok is about 1.97 metres above the mean sea level now," Adisak Khantee said Tuesday in his capacity as the chief of the BMA’s Drainage and Sewerage Department.

Went on the Pinklao bridge tonight and saw that the water level had crested a good 50 to 75 centimeters above it usual level. The steps leading to the water on the Pinklao side were under water. The token "park" next to it, was also under water.

But the a couple of months ago Governor Sukhum was certain that Bangkok would not be flooded again. In his mind, the Bangkok he talks about goes from where to where? As a top priority back then he instructed his drones to make sure that all billboards were legal and secured.

Fast forward to today: "Bangkok residents living along the Chao Phraya River were warned to brace themselves for possible floods."

Let me see, before the last flood of 2011, he was the governor of Bangkok. After the elections, he was and still is the governor. During all those years before YL to the present, what was the plan he implemented to stop, abate or eliminate the danger of flood to Bangkok? Does anybody knows? Seriously.

A bit of silom and Sukhumvit is his meaning of bangkok. And also where his house is. No doubt.

I traveld a fair stretch of the river in Bangkok today. Water levels are significantly above normal though there isn't yet any flooding. Water seems to be flowing fast and carrying a lot of debris including the occassional large log. areas along the river have been sandbagged, elevated walkways are being installed in many areas, drainage systems which may overflow are being blocked, canals are being pumped down, and large pumps are being moved into place and tested. I was happy to see such a degree of preperation but do hope that it might become unnecessary with improved water management efforts in the future.

Some portions of New Orleans, Louisiana are 2 meters below sea level. Maybe Yingluck should go there on one of her future trips to see how flood control is really done.

There could also be more breaches on Frid and Sat , depending on the PTP flood control measures in the North ,whilst , working above capacity and making the country flood free, check with Prime Ministers department for more re-assuring, in denial, hot wind comments aka , 2012.expect more of the same 2014.coffee1.gifcoffee1.gifclap2.gif
