The situation is personal to me.

The gf's old man is ex-navy ... and he limps.

Had his right leg blown off below the knee by an IUD when stationed 'down south'.

David how personal do you think the situation is to people who lost brothers, fathers, grandads, they are all dead, just think about your little grudge and times that by a thousand.

Thailand has to choices. 1.Give the provinces to Malaysia who is partially to blame for the "insurgency"

2. No holds barred from the military WITH help from USA and Israel

The current way is useless. These guys don't want autonomy in Thailand. They want out. If Thailand want to keep them, it must be done by force, a force of might and skill, not the pathetic security operation up to today

No way! The Brits were far more successful with their handling of a similar insurgent situation in Malaya in the 50's.

They did not use the "gung ho" methods used by either the USA and Israel and eventually won the day ! For goodness sake keep the Americans out or else things will quickly escalate completely out of control.

the govt needs to greow some balls and start killing these scum bags, they operate reasonably freely and when they are caught they are released on bail, even the bomb makers. How in the hell are the people supposed to be protected when the army is too sh*t scared to shoot back at them, as I have said before, they need to round these people up as they do know who they are and execute them all. This will stop the killings quickly because all these mongrels are cowards and attack and kill innocent people and when they realize they will be killed they will sh*t themselves and run as far as they can. All muslim radicals target unnarmed civilians because they dont shoot back, they are all low life cowards and do not deserve to live.

You obviously are not familiar with previous tactics that were used by Thaksin in 2004. and you don't know anything about the real situation on the ground, this has nothing to do with religion and all about mafia and control of territory, it's all about crushing the spirit of the local communties, just like a wild Elephant brought out of the Jungle needs his spirit to be crushed.

You and too many people just read the papers and make your judgements from that. Cant believe what a brain washed society will swallow, keep reading the papers. Why don't you take time to think about who controlls the story that all the other websites/newpapers quote Verbatim without any indepentant investagtion.

.

I bet none of you making such ridiculous statements such as nuke them, have ever been there or know anyone from that region.

If as you rednecks say that it's all about religion then how come Krabi, Saturn, Phuket, etc(loads of Muslims) are all peaceful. Some of the Muslims in the south are some of the most courteous friendly people on the planet.

Stop telling us lies. You are just supporting Terrorist. Fool now call be a redneck so I call you a fool again

Could someone educate me ... why kill the teachers?

For much the reason they target monks; because they're seen as promoting un-Islamic/anti-Islamic agendas in the eyes of these cretins.

Bingo. Free thought is no an Islamic trait. Whoever think Muslims want peace (ever) have never studies the religion.

Even the most liberal Muslims think it is their way or the highway (to hell).

Woow 20 at the same time. Did they get money from all 20. I heard of 5 in one day by a couple of guys in Europe and I thought that was much. But never 20.

SOUTH CRISIS
Teacher, two rangers killed in South attacks; ATMs bombed

The Nation

Paradorn puts blame on groups opposed to peace process with BRN

BANGKOK: -- INSURGENTS LAUNCHED a series of coordinated arson and bomb attacks in the deep South late on Tuesday, mostly targeting banks to damage their automatic teller machines.

In two other attacks, one in Pattani fatally wounded a teacher, and the other in Narathiwat killed two Army paramilitary rangers and wounded five others.

Officials said 34 locations were under attack, damaging or gutting a large number of ATM machines belonging to various private and government banks or those attached to convenience stores.

Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnog said the attacks were symbolic and marked the anniversaries of two insurgent groups - Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), which was established on October 10, and Patani United Liberation Organization (Pulo) on October 11.

Three attacks were conducted in the Yawi-speaking district of Saba Yoi in Songkhla, while the remainder, involving either small-sized incendiary bombs or the torching of car tyres to block roads, took place in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, said Colonel Pramote Phrome-in, of the Internal Security Operations Centre's forward base.

The military viewed the attacks as attempts to destabilise the region economically apart from demoralising the local public, said the spokesman. The colonel also called on residents to condemn the attacks.

There were no prior warnings from security agencies about the attacks, which are traditionally given at national level and from local offices in charge of security in the deep South.

The death of Waena Munoh, a teacher at Ban Johkeuyae in the Pattani attack on Tuesday night, brought the death toll of teachers to 165.

The victim, 55, was sleeping in her living quarters guarded by soldiers when she was hit by stray bullets shot into the complex by attacking insurgents. They had stolen two fire trucks and replaced the water with fuel, and were preparing to spray an entire living quarter with it before setting it on fire. Two suspects have been apprehended for questioning for this attack.

In the bomb attack in Narathiwat yesterday morning, a three-vehicle convoy belonging to the 46th Ranger Regiment was blasted with a roadside bomb while on a patrol. The blast hit the middle vehicle killing one ranger instantly; a second was pronounced dead in hospital, while five others were wounded. Fourteen teenage men at a nearby teashop have been apprehended for questioning.

National Security Council secretary-general Paradorn Pattana-thabutr said the attacks were likely conducted by those opposed to an ongoing peace process between Thai authorities and the BRN. He said there would possibly be more attacks in the next few days, then they would cease - but he did not explain why.

In another bomb attack, a roadside bomb hit a vehicle belonging to a Ranger company, causing minor injuries to the crew and slight damage to the vehicle. This attack took place in Pattani's Sai Buri district late on Tuesday night and into yesterday morning.

I honestly have no idea what's really going on in this country. Ever.

either does the government. otherwise they would do something about the problem.

Only one way to deal with it. send half the Thai army down there, house arrest all muslims. if they dont comply jail them or shoot to kill.

You cant reason with people like this.

Just how do you propose to house arrest, jail or kill approx 1.5 million men, women and children in nearly 10,000 square kilometers of territory? This of course excludes the prospect, when carrying out ethnic cleansing/genocide policies, of the other 2.7 million Muslims living thoughout Thailand taking up arms against the Thai State

Because they are soft targets, kill of the lower level government employees and the government can no longer function.

i don't get your agenda. what? leave things the way they are? mai bpen rai? don't inflame the Muslims? let more innocent people die? i know all about Tak Bai, been to the South a few times. wife was born in Hat Yai...

i agree that an excellent idea would be to enlist the help of the Israelis. forget the Americans as they will mess things up even worse. even a 25 man team of Mossad could do more than the Thai military at cleaning up the insurgents.

a few check-points here and there staffed by young, inexperienced soldiers doesn't do anything.

If ATMs continue to be targeted, eventually they will not be replaced.

This tactic hasn't been very well thought out.

what you talkin bout more falangw will come no matter what.

How can they tell what phone was used to trigger the bombs?

Phone system in 3 border provinces requires separate SIM from the rest of Thailand, and requires submission of ID and fingerprints for registration.

It's strange to see people called "rednecks" or "racists" for criticizing the bullying mentality the terrorists display. Things have to be extremely bad to justify these attacks against innocents. Ignoring the local populace is bad, but certainly doesnt justify this response. I find the predictable defenses of these fanatics offensive and highly disrespectful to the brave soldiers and police serving down there.

Reminds me like the speak english to the ppl that live in the southern USA. The odd thing is maybe you and the americans feel that the ppl in the south of USA which was formerly mexico should speak english and not spanish but you know your story here double standards.

Oh pls don't talk about it this way. Did u know north of thailand used to be under lanna kingdom so aren't thais. Same for issan region under cambodia.

Same thing with the UK. Might as well say ireland are seperate from the UK since they aren't english.

They are malays but malay isn't in an actual sense an ethnic group. There are many types of "malay ppls" like boyanese for example and in some instances like singapore they are just simply categorized as malays. The fact of the matter is malaysia as a nation is just like making europe as a nation bringing all sorts of different types of ppl as a nation.

I wonder why don't you see former regions of cambodia now part of thailand do this? Why don't you see northern thais who were under laos for example do this?

Wherever it be, all over the world, Muslims aren't happy. They want to impose "their" Sharia Law. All they need to do is go to an Islamic State to live.

From 1946 Sharia law for civil matters has been legal in some areas of Thailand, but not for criminal matters. In some secular Muslim majority countries, Sharia Law for criminal matters, advocated by conservative Islamists, has been resisted and not implemented.

I'd like to add that if people defend these actions, they should literally go and dive on a bomb themselves.

Pick a side. Either you're with us or against us.

The situation is not solvable. Never. At least not with present frame of mind of opposing parties.

Muslims do not go out to blow up bombs and kill people. Terrorists do. The fact that these terrorists incidentally are Muslims means nothing. There have been and are terrorists among any religious groups

.

You can not talk sense to terrorists.

You can not use normal logic, laws etc. with terrorists.

To solve the problem you need measures abhorrent to normal people in normal society.

This is unthinkable? unacceptable? Fine! But until you can think and accept this -

The problem is never solvable.

In short, to deal effectively with terrorism you must think and act like terrorist.

Any nice furry cuddly loving characters not agreeable with this are welcome to suggest another way. And make sure it is working! and acceptable to terrorists!

Hardly. They are seen as agents of the Thai State, which of course they are, and are carrying out the State's policy of cultural genocide against the Malu-muslim population of the region.

Might i ask you why is it so easy to make a terrorist out of a "moderate" muslim? You simply don't see that with other religions. Do you think a buddhist could be converted to being a terrorist?
