Returning to Thailand

Featured Replies

hello. i hope that i'm posted this in the correct area.

Me and my wife are returning to thailand next month. I have a US passport and she has a thailand passport. her passport will expire in february. we are returning to thailand so she can renew her passport. i have heard that some airlines only allow you to board the airplane if your passport is valid for the next 6 months. we are flying phillipines air and they said that they follow the rules of the country that we are entering. in other words, if thailand will allow my wife to enter the country, then she will be allowed to board the airplane.

now my question, with her thai passport expiring in februray, will she have a problem entering thailand? i know that this seems like an obvious answer because she is returning to her home country, but i am just looking for verification or i'm wondering if anyone else dealt with this before. thank you in advance.

She won't have any problems.

A Thai can enter on an expired passport. So no problem for her.

As said passport does not even have to be valid for a Thai to enter there own country. But why does she need to return to Thailand to obtain a new passport? Is it easier than a trip to Consulate Section? Or does she really need to renew an ID card?

are saying ur flying to thailand to renew ur wifes passport from the states?

If so and that's the only reason, dont bother,

The Thai embassy in DC will give u a 5 year extension (if u have not had one on her passport, only 1 allowed) or a new passport

I did it for my daughter

actually we are going to thailand to visit my in laws. we just had a son and the grandparents can't wait to see him.

thanks for the tip about the extension. a trip to DC might be easier as far as dealing with immigrations, but being that i live in hawaii. i'm sure that the distance is about the same. thanks for all your replies.

There is a Thai consulate in Los angeles. Maybe they can renew her Thai passport. Also, a few years ago, I got Viet Nam Visas in the US by mail. Maybe Thailand embassy will issue her new passport by mail. Worth a call to ask.

cant the Royal Thai Consulate in Hawaii get her a new passport?

Philippine Air? Just changing planes at Manila, then on to Bangkok? Transit lounge only? NOT going through Philippine Immigration, hopefully.

Make sure that they'll let her board the plane with current passport.

yes, there is a thai consulate in LA that does passport renewals. that was another option, but since we have planned our trip already, going to LA isn't an option.

actually the thai consulate closed down over a year ago. the LA branch comes down once a year in january to help with passport renewals.

yes, we are only stopping over in manilla. we won't go through customs in manila sine we are only transfering airplanes. and yes, her current passport is still valid until next year, february.

The new Thai passports are biometric and applicants have to show up in person for this.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

yes, i have heard that you can only get a new thai passport in person. however, i did not know that they are all biometrics now. thanks for the info.

when i was flying home last year with only 5 months on my passport and transiting thru tokyo on JAL, i phoned the airline as well as the canadian consulate and both assured me there would be no problem. there was no problem.

Again I must state Thais can enter with expired passport and it is no problem for her transit in the Philippines.
