October 9, 201312 yr Anti-Govt Protests: Police Reinforce Suvarnabhumi AirportBy Khaosod OnlineBANGKOK: -- Riot police have been dispatched to maintain order at Bangkok′s main international airport amidst the fears that the ongoing anti-government protests might escalate.115 officers, drawn from the crowd control unit of Uttaradit province, are now stationed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in order to "assure the foreign visitors of their safety," said Pol.Col. Montri Chinda. The order came direction from the Royal Thai Police headquarters, he added. The officers are supported by two vans carrying supply and riot gears, such as shields and truncheons.Pol.Col. Montri also told our correspondent that two more police companies in Uttaradit are at "stand-by" to reinforce the riot police in Bangkok should the protests at Government House get out of hand.In 2008, the People′s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) led the protesters to occupy both of Bangkok′s airports as part of their campaign to force the government at the time to resign. The government of then-Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat eventually collapsed after the court ordered the disbandment of his political party.Allied to the PAD, the People′s Force of Democracy to Overthrow Thaksinism (PEFOT) is similarly calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, accusing her of being a corrupt puppet of her brother, former PM Thaksin Shinawatra.Source: http://www.khaosod.co.th/en/view_newsonline.php?newsid=TVRNNE1UTXhNelUxTUE9PQ==-- KHAOSOD English 2013-10-09
October 9, 201312 yr Fight fire with fire, answer violence with violence. The senators have demonstrated in parliament, and their followers will do the same. Amazing Thailand primitive politics logic
October 9, 201312 yr Popular Post Allied to the PAD, the People′s Force of Democracy to Overthrow Thaksinism (PEFOT) is similarly calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, accusing her of being a corrupt puppet of her brother, former PM Thaksin Shinawatra. I thought Thaksin had already straightened this out, Yingluck is not his corrupt puppet, she is his corrupt clone.

October 9, 201312 yr Rampant paranoia is abounding in the multi faceted minds of Thaksin and his puppet government.
October 9, 201312 yr Clone or not, elected is elected! I thought PTP was elected and YS was appointed to the job!! Exactly, assayer. My mind often boggles when I hear she was "elected". She wasn't.

October 9, 201312 yr Clone or not, elected is elected! I thought PTP was elected and YS was appointed to the job!! Thaksin bought the election...was vote buying at its worst
October 9, 201312 yr Popular Post The writings on the wall. "Beware Tourist, Thailand is having minor difficulties with some protestors. Just ignore all the riot police all around you. Please go straight to your hotel and stay there." The issue isn't the minor problem with protestors. Thaksin knows he has pushed it too far and fears that things gonna escalate. Don't you think that the fortune teller rumour which was spread, wasn't pre meditated? You not gonna believe it is coincidence that just now the 2 trillion loan passed.
October 9, 201312 yr I pray for a peaceful resolution to this, and for the safety of protesters and security forces alike. Thais should not fight Thais. Thais should throw out all the corrupt leaders, in elections, and start over with a new progressive Thai party which protects sovereignty and the rights of ALL Thai people regardless of what colour shirts they wear or what social class they belong to. Some countries need revolutions to get rid of bad leaders others can do it easier. No matter which way it should be done without harming people.
October 9, 201312 yr Until they start fighting for something rather than some one...What comes out of the barrel of a gun penetrates much deeper than Cogent argument here.

Indeed, Colonel, because, whether its entering the Tehran airport during the time of the Shah or the Manila airport during the time of martial-law Marcos, nothing translates genuine stability and a welcoming atmosphere for visitors more than armed riot police patrolling the corridors.
October 9, 201312 yr Thailand even when its in the middle of a coup is safer than Europe, UK and USA. Hear, hear!
October 9, 201312 yr Is this really about anti-government protests or a security feature to stop all those bent on suicide from getting into the airport and ruining reputations ?
October 10, 201312 yr They obviously know they are guilty as sin, The Yingluck administration has been such a farce that such measures (occupying airports) might seem par for the course. Elected or not, demanding that a puppet of a convicted criminal resign is perfectly acceptable. And they should be allowed to gather. Not at the airport but in front of government house without intimidation from 12,000 police. Complete overkill, what are Peua Thai neurotic about.
October 10, 201312 yr Isn't this the worlds best airport - according to an article here about 10 days ago?? Way to go ! Good work - show the world ! What a JOKE
October 10, 201312 yr The writings on the wall. "Beware Tourist, Thailand is having minor difficulties with some protestors. Just ignore all the riot police all around you. October 10, 201312 yr Author Lampang and Nan send riot police to help keep order during Bangkok protest LAMPANG, 10 October 2013 (NNT) – The commanders of Lampang and Nan police on Wednesday dispatched riot police from the provinces to Bangkok to help ensure order during the scheduled demonstration by an anti-government group between October 9-17. 188 policemen were dispatched from Nan province. They were armed with full anti-riot gear, and equipped with provisions meant to last at least 7 days. The riot policemen will reinforce Bangkok police officers in keeping order around the Government House until the 17 of October. In Lampang province, 170 riot policemen were dispatched with similar gears but with additional vehicles such as vans and prisoner transporting vehicles. While most of the policemen will be on duty in the 3 districts surround Government House, some will be assigned to ensure order at Suvarnabhumi Airport. -- NNT 2013-10-10
October 10, 201312 yr Is this not related to the visit of the Chinese Premier? And the imposition of the ISA in the Government House area?
October 10, 201312 yr Popular Post Thailand even when its in the middle of a coup is safer than Europe, UK and USA. Obviously you were NOT around during the Red Shirt uprising ... I also suspect if there were full English language reporting of all of the street crimes in Thailand, we might find that it's getting to be similar to that of those Western places you name. Just because you don't see something, doesn't mean it's not there.
October 10, 201312 yr Thailand even when its in the middle of a coup is safer than Europe, UK and USA. In which context? Is living in rural Essex County, outside Frankfurt or rural Idaho safer than living in the slums of Bangkok? Is a Thai safer living in either places or a non-Thai in the same locations? Is your money or real assets "Safer" in the LOS or outside? What about driving and flying? Safer or not? Generalized statements are vague and not easily supported. However, it does make for interesting debate.
October 10, 201312 yr Clone or not, elected is elected! I thought PTP was elected and YS was appointed to the job!! Thaksin bought the election...was vote buying at its worst Like it doesn't happen anywhere else ! duh ! Look at USA is just one example
October 10, 201312 yr Clone or not, elected is elected! I thought PTP was elected and YS was appointed to the job!! Thaksin bought the election...was vote buying at its worst All Thai politicians dish out money a favours to win elections. It doesn't work. The Thai people take their money and vote the way they want anyway. Those of you that have lived in the Bannoch know that as well as I do.
