Totally agree. The housing industry is super important to the Thai economy and the foreign buyers contribute to its well-being. Foreign quota in condo projects could easily be increased while still protecting Thai buyers with a provision that the condo boards must always have a certain percentage of Thai owners. It's healthy for a condo project to be fully-sold rather than having units sitting unsold because the foreign quota is full and not enough Thais bought into the project. With houses, the law could easily be changed to allow one, and only one, house to be legally purchased by a foreigner on no more than 1 or 2 rai of land. There could easily be special fees for foreign house purchases that could go toward building affordable housing for Thais, or to fund special mortgages for first-time Thai buyers. You may have noticed the word 'easily' used a number of times. And, rightly so--it all could be easily done. And, should be for the good of everyone. But, this current government hasn't shown much in the way of forward thinking.
