Illegal modifications to motorcycles.

Featured Replies

A friend claimed he was fined 1000 baht because he had a non-stock muffler/silencer on his motocy.

Someone told me it is 'illegal to drive a modified motorcycle in Thailand.'

Comments from the peanut gallery sage readers?

A friend of mine got fined 1000 Baht because he had resprayed the console of his PCX and didn't register this at the land department.

As with most thing "legal or not" it depends who wants to enforce and to what degree. Can vary by person place and mood, who the rider is and who he knows, Guess the real answer is.....unlucky !

I got fined for having a motorbike headlight that was " too bright and not the right color " w00t.gif

The BIB was having a slow day and behind budget - probably rent day.

Your mate was the unlucky one that had to cough up so the BIB could meet target.

On the good side, better him than me. coffee1.gif

The land department , or the transportation office?

Let's agree to disagree, The land transportation office biggrin.png

One time I wanted to trade in my motorbike for a newer model nothing at all wrong with the bike. The dealership price for taking as down (trade in) on the old bike was extremely low, and I asked why, because it had been modified by its teen-aged first owner, as I just took over the payments when it was only about 6 months old, on agreement with the boys father,

Needless to say I still drive it, and we purchased two newer motorbikes, after 10 years of owning it it still runs extremely well, we have taken it many times for the required inspection and no one has ever mentioned the modifications.

Lucky maybe!
