Thailand newschannels

Featured Replies

Hi, i will be going to Thailand soon for work and I am trying to find some information about ways to get to learn Thailand a bit better. I hope this is the correct place for this post..

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers about channels that provide the news. I am looking for some divers channels to broaden my knowledge. Could you guys tell me what the Thai sources are? Like for instance, a Thai newspaper a bit similar to the NY Times or USA Today is....

I am trying to soak up as much info as possible to get a head start :) Could anyone fill in this list for me?

Newspapers

- Serious newspaper: in USA: New York Times. In Thailand you have...?

- Large sensational newspaper: USA Today or The Sun. In Thailand you have...?

TV

- Serious news program: In USA: Charlie Rose or Meet the Press. In Thailand you have...?

- Large news channel: in USA: MSNBC News. In Thailand you have...?

- News sensation: in USA: Fox News. In Thailand you have...?

Radio

- Large radio station: in USA: National Public Radio. In Thailand you have...?

Online

- large news webpage such as Huffington Post. In Thailand you have...?

Thanks a bunch! :)

Hey Niels,

You are going to be sorely disappointed as serious journalism is severely lacking here given Thailand's "non-complaining" culture.

There are two "large" English newspapers, one is "The Nation", a sponsor of this website and because of that the other, "the B______k Post", we really can't talk about.

There are various other, smaller publications/news websites in English, such as BK magazine (shopping, dining, pop culture), Bangkok Trader, The Big Mango, Sukhumvit Street Scene, Bangkok Coconuts (news stories written in a more casual, light-hearted way), Khaosod news, Pattaya Daily news/Pattaya One (when you want to catch up on madness, fear and loathing).

Radio? You seriously are going to listen to radio? (just kidding) I think there are two English stations, 107...and something else.

As far as TV goes, well there are Thai news channels, in Thai of course, and there is a public news station, ThaiPBS, which sometimes has English news programs. There is also the "IN" channel that just opened this year on cable which is kind of an amateurish Thai news channel and its all in English.

To be honest, this website is going to be one of your best sources of info, just browse the different news sections and local forums and you'll get a feel for what is going on.

Hi KBlaze! Thanks for your reply, this helps a lot! I am actually also looking for thai media, so not english, to work on my language skills :)

oh really? can you read and understand Thai?

"The Nation" is not a sponsor of Thaivisa. The reason that you can't quote Bangkok Post articles on Thaivisa is because the Bangkok Post threatens anyone who quotes their articles with legal action.

All those non complaining people dressed in yellow shirts at the airport were going on a trip? All those non complaining people dressed in red shirts in Bangkok were going shopping?
