Deactivate Windows 7 Warning Using Windows Activation Tool And Get It Genuine

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Here's the situation. My hard drive of a Dell notebook passed away after only five moons.( Already my second) They'd made all the changes for free including all software, plus a Windows 7 copy, but firmly activated.

My updated are on, just applied twice, first time about 30, second time just one. Should I switch the updates off, as I'm assuming that they'll find out that it's a copy. And then give me warnings like "Your Windows is not genuine"....with then all the following updates to get the system running well.

Should I turn my updates off? Thanks for any useful input.-wai.gif

If it's been installed with the original genuine key you won't have a problem.

Just a word to the wise, any users suggesting ways around the WGA system (illegal) will get a holiday.

Look at the sticker attached to the base of your Dell. It will contain the activation key. You may have to download a recovery image from Dell online Support and not any old Pantip copy.

Excuse me, please. Would you be so kind and read my post again? - Maybe a wrong post.-wai.gif

Does this machine have a Service Tag on the bottom? What is it?

If not, what is the full model number written on the bottom of the laptop.

Be prepared to run a full clean install with a certified disc.

You didn't state who 'they' is.

If they turned off Windows Update or told you to turn off updates, then I would assume they installed a rogue copy.

If you turn Windows Update off, then you won't recieve important or critical security updates. Your computer would be more at risk for malware!

If it's a rogue copy and Windows update is turned on, then it may be discovered as a rogue copy and deactivated with a not genuine Windows warning appearing.

If they installed a legitimate copy from Dell and used your old activation key, you can turn on updates and not have any problems in the future.

If they are a official Dell service center, I would assume they installed a legitimate DELL OEM copy and activated it with a legitimate Dell activation key. In which case you can turn on updates and not have any problems in the future.

I would find out what they installed and how they activated it.

And I always thought Windows 7 was a Microsoft product.....thanks for all the good advice.-wai2.gif

So, you're asking for support of a pirated product.

Good luck with that.

I'm just a costumer, who'd Windows 7 installed at a computer shop. YeeaahI guess it;s not pirated.

How about just paying for a Legal copy, and stop being a tight ass. Thats the problem with most Farangs here always trying to find ways to cheat.

I'm not a tight ass, sir, with all respect. Nor do I wish to read your "street slang". Please mind your own business, sir.

. Do you work for Microsoft, or are you always that hyper? I'd payed my bill and got a legal and genuine Windows 7 with working updates.

Your statement that most "Farang here cheat" should give you a suspension for life time. You don't really get it, do you?-wai2.gif

It is, but Dell and other OEMs are provided with OEM versions. DELL and other OEMs are responsible for customer support and the reactivation when major components are changed such as hard drives, motherboards, or BIOS; not Microsoft. It's part of their contract. Microsoft only directly support the retail versions.

Also the OEM versions can't be transfered to another computer. The product activation code is fixed to that computer. Whereas with the retail version, Windows can be transfered to another computer. You can contact Microsoft to get a new product activation code at no charge when you move it to another computer.

OK chaps enough of the bickering!

To our OP, did you buy Windows separately from the machine, or was it included? Either way you should have a CD key somewhere (if it was included there should be a sticker on the machine, otherwise on your original CD packaging).

Microsoft do a key change tool so you can change the CD key without re-installing.

You can bring any brand to an ordinary computer shop in this country and they'll put all programs you want on it, maybe excluding drivers for Bluetooth on it. These were saved on my external.

Now, let's get back to work, roughly speaking.-wai2.gif

But of course, none of the software would be legal (drivers are of course public domain).

Are you here just to waste time with 'chit-chat' or to discover as to whether you have a hacked copy installed and to solve the problem?

If it is just for a general 'chit-chat' then perhaps the technical forum is not the place for you.

I have posed questions in post #6. Is there are reason why you have bypassed them and chosen to engage in pointless bickering?

So, answer them and let's move forward.

Actually, if this shop was in Thailand and you don't have the original installation media (or at least the original CD key sticker), then I humbly suggest that it almost certainly IS pirated.

True, Here's How to tell.

Whoever did the job did NOT restore your original W7

You have a pirated version.

Just changing the disk does not invalidate Windows

This is a good lesson to us all to make sure we have a copy of the Windows Installations Disks

Full instructions here

The better alternative is to use one of the many disk imaging tools to back up your entire drive.

I use Acronis, but there are many other options, some free.

Thanks a lot for taking the time. I've just figured out that it's a copy. Actually something like a trial version. But I found a way to activate it. -wai2.gif

Running a MS Windows version without installing the official updates is like crossing a busy road with your eyes closed.

Last time I was in Panthip I saw that they still sell Windows 7, and it only costs 3500 THB. I can understand that a Somchai making 6,000 THB per month has some difficulty with paying that. But most foreigners I know in Thailand live with incomes that make it very possible to pay for a legal MS Windows version.

Sorry, but I'm aware to update all software I'm using. Honestly speaking, I can't afford to buy a genuine one now. Making 27 K, got a wife and son.

Savings are gone after an accident with my bigger bike, as the hospitals here screwed my leg together that German doctors almost freaked out and

I had to go to Europe for several and serious operations, including an artificial knee joint with a free bacterial infection.

Then we got hit by a nasty flood and lost our home. I've got a car, bought from the money I brought to Thailand, but would never be able to buy one living on such a salary.

Don't want to be one of the homeless foreigners in LOS. Would be nice to know how many TVF members are running a "bypassed version" of Windows.

I'm not able to save one baht./ month. I'm neither a heavy drinker, nor a chain smoker. Sad, but true, that working as a teacher doesn't allow you to live more secure.

It's always the same. People who don't make enough money will always take the cheaper alternative. - wai2.gif

None of this excuses stupidity. I offered another option, but you took the easy one. Crude theft.

The hard drive on my pc failed, taking the OS with it. The manufacturer was out of buisness. I have the licence sticker but MS won't support me so I don't consider getting it running again by any means 'thieft'.

perhaps that's because it would seem that you can be offensive, but you are patently unable to be clear.

Why not take the time to think about what you are asking and then instead of being a <deleted>, actually ask it.

Ah, ive just read your list of woes and it seems that you are cheating.

So what is it you actually want?

Edit:

i just read the thread in its entirety and i suspect the op may be a little thick, if not outright challenged.

If you have the licence sticker, you have a valid licence. Easily solved by preserving pre-activation status or by telephone activation.

Would have that fixed and activated legitimately in no time at all.

Absolutely no reason for you to run a compromised OS....and no reason for you to have to pay to get it sorted.

If you are in the same position, furnish the details and I'll sort it out for you.
