Wonder If any TV Members know any thing about this.

Me and the misses will be going back to the UK next year for a little break ( Holiday) and for me to get my fill, off strong bow and large donor kebabs, and all the other things I miss from back home smile.png

The last time we was back in Wales was about 2-3 years ago.. and there was no problem getting the visa,, the only difference with this trip is,, If we can ?

we would like to visit a few countries in Europe,, maybe a little trip to France or Holland.

Is this possible ?? would I need a special visa?? Would it be to much red tape to get through?? and simply not worth It.

Maybe some one has already done it,, and can put me In the right direction

Thanks In advance

Your wife would need a Schengen visa as well as a UK visa. She would need to apply for that in Thailand, and once she has her UK visa, her application would be fairly straightforward as she is the wife of an EU citizen, travelling with you to the Schengen area.

That visa would cover travel to all of the Schengen countries, but you are supposed to apply to the embassy of the country you are visiting first.

I have been in contact with the German embassy in Bangkok, and their procedure, unsurprisingly, seemed to be the most straightforward.

In the end, we didn't bother, but that was because our plans changed, not because it was going to be difficult.

I did this back in May, it was a real hassle and nightmare! We wanted to go to Finland, Finnish Embassy and staff and the whole system and hoops they made us jump through were ridiculous. Never again!

Other Embassies may be different but you will need flight reservations in and out of the shengen area, precise itinery.

Uk visa was a doddle in comparison,

I'll move this to the Visa to other countries forum.

In the meantime I will add that we did this a couple of months back, the UK Visa was no problem but we had a problem with the French Visa Section and the Italian Visa Processing Centre. The Italian processing centre have since apologised for giving false information, whilst the French have, so far, ignored the complaint.

As the OP is an EU national and his wife will be travelling with him; these are not required.

It's a third hand account and the first I've heard of it, but I was told last week that the Thai girlfriend of a mutual friend got a Schengen visa from the German consulate in Edinburgh. Unconfirmed and a new one on me, but perhaps worth enquiring about.

They do say that you need to be resident in the UK to apply for a Schengen Visa there, and actually resident in Scotland or the north of England.

It's not for those visiting the UK, though I don't know if they will make exceptions.

Indeed oldgit. I don't have the full story, just saying it might be an avenue worth checking out. What I do know for certain is that this Thai national was in the UK on a visitor visa and managed to get some documentation at the Edinburgh Consulate allowing her to travel to Germany with her British boyfriend. No exceptional circumstances.

Definitely worth a call or an email.

Although, when I spoke to the German Embassy in Bangkok, they did confirm that my wife should apply there, as she is a resident of Thailand.

Mind you, they would wouldn't they? :)

Anyway, what they told me we would have to do didn't sound all that difficult.

She would have to attend in person, show her passport with her UK visa in it, have a copy of my passport, our marriage certificate and a German translation of it.

They gave me an approved list of translators in Bangkok as well.

In the end, it was the added trip to Bangkok that made us decide not to bother. Our house is in the very north of Chiang Rai, so it's about as far away from Bangkok as you can get and still be in Thailand :)
