snake24 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Asked my thai friends and they told me in english it's Buddha day but I forgot wat they call it in thai. Checked on wiki and its the 23rd of this day where they mourn the passing of king chulalongkorn but there's no festival tomorrow. What day is it tomorrow? Saw on tv they were giving gifts to the queen and the royals were giving bags of food to villagers.
fabianfred Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Today, 19th Oct, is what the thais call 'ork pansaa' which means the end of the 3 month rains retreat. It is also full-moon day so a 'Wan Phra yai' meaning a big Buddha day. Buddha days are every week and coincide with the four moon phases. The proper name is Uposotha day, or practice day. This when the faithful, especially the older people, might spend a day and night at the temple, wearing white clothing and keeping the eight precepts. Some parts of Thailand this is done every buddha day....in the north it seems to be done mostly during the Pansaa. The People staying at the temple are called 'Por sin, Mae sin' ....'sin' being the Thai for precepts.
snake24 Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 thanks for explaining its not really a big thing then
