Featured Replies

Hi

Hope someone can help me..

I talked with a girl, and she dont have id-card or anything.. She is from Myanmar, but was born and raised in Thailand..

I know it´s a big problem, but can she get thai id-card somehow, or is it a lost game?

Im open for suggestions..

I suppose it is a very big problem. I could also throw away my passport and say that I was born and raised in here, but no one is going to believe me, it is usually impossible to prove in cases like this.

Being born in Thailand does not confer any rights to being Thai if parents were from another country. Her documentation needs to come from country of parents. Can she be classed as refugee? Can her parents be of help? Does she have any documentation?

There is a procedure to go through to get a pink ID card as a stateless person.

And one to obtain Thai citizenship also.

Knowing how the Thai government treats Burmese nationals without ID, please explain why a Burmese national would throw away their passport upon entering Thailand.

If she was born before 1992 and has documentation to prove it and docs for her parents, she may be entitled to apply for Thai citizenship. With full documentation she should be eligible for a pink stateless ID card. Be warned. They are sticklers for the precise documentation. There are about 450,000 stateless people in a similar situation.
